One of my fave shows (and a few others here) the past year-or-so was ESPN's documentary series "30 For 30." ESPN/Grantland announced last week a 2nd series - short docs. The first one just posted online is about Pete Rose selling autographs in Las Vegas. It humanizes him in a way I haven't previously seen, it's semi-pathetic and kinda funny in a way you usually only see with retired pro-wrestlers on the Comic-Con circuit, and you find yourself liking the guy. The doc runs 8 minutes and can be seen here (with story about the new "30 For 30" season):
Website w/ trailer for new season and the Rose film can be seen here:
I'm struggling my way through The Wire S5 at the moment. Just not buying into the the whole premise around McNulty. The writers must have been getting tired. The rest of the story (including the homeless) could have happened for real and didn't need Jimmy's interference. The Killing is heading toward it's climax but the last two episodes have been a bit of a 'plateau' to set up the conclusion. Still a very well acted and scripted show, if a touch over dramatic at times. I'm not sure if anyone else has been wayching Person of Interest which IMO matured a lot during it's run. Was good to have a show that was given that opportunity to find it's feet over a 23 episode season. I had just been watching it as a 'filler' but as the show moved on from being episodic formula stuff to being more about the underlying stories of the main characters it started to get really good and has set itself up well for a second series. It didn't fall into the trap of 'Alcatraz' where they kept too much secret and only eeked out the main story in tiny bits so the veiwer lost interest.
Yeah I'm up to date on The Killing and it is moving along well, although as you say a little slower to set the scene.
Is a change of tact form most cop shows where the killer is caught at the end of each episode, so makes it a bit more realistic and how it deals with the accused's and the impact on their lives too. ALso Linden is her own worst enemy, just doesnt know when to shut it. Be interesting to see how they finish it though.
I have enjoyed Person of Interest too, especially as it is delving into Rees' past now, given I was skeptical to start with due to the association with Lost wirters/producers or whoever. Even the main premise of the show (the software that gives the info) isnt that far fetched.

Aussie based Ferners only, onone else watching "Bikie Wars"? I have been, and its not too bad. There's plenty of fights and tits to keep you amused, and the story moves along pretty well. If you can overlook the atrocious Scottish accent, its a decent little hour a week watch. I hope it doesn't got the way of so many of these shows, and have about 6 episodes too many.

Also, i am a religious Q&A watcher on a Monday night. The ones where the panel is stacked with politicians can get tedious (espcially at the moment) and the audience seems packed with left-wing Sociology major student hipsters determined to prove how smart they are (seriously, just ask the fucking question, your opinion and fluffery doesn't matter you self-important dickbag), but all in all its good TV. Anyway, my point was, did anyone watch Monday's? It was piss funny, Barry Hunphries was on and he owned! Everything he said was funny as fuck, and half the time he didn't even answer the question. The others all chimed in as well (the journalist was the surprise to me), and i reckon it was the best panel in ages.

Off the top of my head, that was probably one of my fave 3 or 4 episodes (the Ricky Williams, Two Escobars, and USFL episodes were my faves, but I didn't think there was a weak one in the lot).

@Mariner - Bikie Wars starts in NZ tonight, following on from the finale of SOA a fortnight ago.

Yea, it's no SOA, so if that is your level of expectation, give it a miss. But as far as a locally produced show supposedlybased on true events, it's entertaining.

The Marion Jones one was pretty weak. It certainly avoided certain aspects of why she went to prison.

I couldn't. I tried, but that attempt at an accent was so bad as to be totally distracting.

Hit and Miss, story of a Trans-sexual assassin who has become the legal guardian of 4 kids from his/her ex-girlfriend, one of the kids is her/his son. Chloe Sevigny is the lead. I have watched the first two episodes and looks promising, 3rd is on tonight

I was thinking it wasnt that bad of an accent given hes a not a classically trained actor. Also you think given that the guy he is playing has lived in Aussie for sometime, based on the facts, he would like have had a Aussie/Scottish accent anyway.

I will say though that as far as first episodes go it was pretty slow. If I hadnt been aware of the story I wouldnt be tuning in to watch the second ep. But Im going to see where it goes and how far off the facts it veers

Sorry cant be bothered trawling through 30 odd pages to find out what has already been said, if anything about Sherlock.

I dont love it but it is watchable. I like the modern setting and the more sinister tone than the current big screen version(still loved the first movie though).

have had some time to digest the finale of Game of Thrones, and I did enjoy it, as to the series, I think not quite as much as S1, although I am not sure whether this was due to me reading the 1st 4 books in between S1 and S2 so I knew what was going on and what is going to happen further down the track.

Without knowing all the characters from the book I probably wouldnt be worried about it, which might be a reason I liked S1 better?

I am looking forward to see how they do book 3, which IMO is the best, although I do hope they spread it over 2 series, dont know if the series will be able to carry off book 4 though...?

While I enjoy watching GoT because it's well made/scripted and has a good level of action I am finding that it grips me less and less.

Perhaps it was too ambitious a project to undertake. I just got the feeling in S2 that I was being given a version of events that scratched the surface of what was going on and struggled to find the right balance between having a good number of story threads that could be followed with interest and having a complex story (as per the books).

I'll still watch it next time around but feel they could have done better if they just took a few threads and fleshed them out.

The Killing has set itself up nicely for the last two episodes though, which is good as it's probably been stretched out by about 3 episodes too many. There is only so many 'Raining in Seattle' scenes one can take.

The underlying 'moral' of this show has been that everyone has secrets and some deal with them better than others so I am prepared for whatever twist comes out of the woodwork at the end.

haha, yeah it has been amusing how many days it seems to be raining on The Killing.

YEah it will be interesting to see how it plays out! BUt jeez Linden is a muppet sometimes, although I supposed her and HOlder have been shafted any number of times by others with alterior motives they cant trust anyone, but as a main character I struggle to like her because she is so stupid!

I decided early on that I wasn't meant to like her. I do like Holder though
and like the way he started off being the character you were meant to think is a
dick, had the most obvious 'secret' (and one that those with 'morals' could lord
over him easily) but has turned out to be the one with the most integrity
without overplaying his hand.
The whole show seems more a vehicle to show human behaviours than a straight murder mystery.
yeah I agree.
and I think I said it earlier, it is a nice change from the usual cop type dramas where they catch the killer each episode and then another appears. I also like Holder, his likable wannabe gangster persona.
Watched Safe House recently and Holder has a part in that as well, was interesting seeing him in another role he actually looks healthy and normal!

Mrs TR is always amused/disgusted at how often Linden wears those horrid sweaters and turtle necks <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/rugby/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
