@Kruse I hope you've got the old mental image rather than the current one.

    Mos'def.
I was actually rather vague in memory of what she looked like, just built my own mental image based on the voice.
Now that you've pushed me into actually doing the research, I need to find an early image to imprint the strongest.

Somehow I don't think you were lying in bad in the morning picturing her face.

Forced laughter on the radio. Hatiest!! (Ben and Jonno are the worst at it)

Matt and Jerry are starting to do it more frequently and it completely puts me off the show when it is being forced.

When I visit NZ I have this weird love hate relationship with NZ radio. It so refreshing to have Djs that talk and swear like normal people.

But the breakfast shows and drivetime show with their antics pranks and wind up calls are the worst. Add in the forced laughter and I can't take it.

I still can't understand why station bosses think radio shows need three presenters trying to outperform each other with lame attempts at humour. It's like having a drink in a pub next to a bunch of moronic teenagers on their first outing without mum.

(caveat to that: it can be a formula that works well with something like sport. Some of the best radio I ever heard was the period when Gibbit, Smithy and Doull were together.)

I'll swim against the tide. When I listened to podcasts / recordings I found their 3 pronged interviews formulaic and rehersed. Wasn't a fan.

Which is interesting as I am a yuuuge fan of Gibbit on RS Breakfast. And perhaps Gibbit in general.

Just wasn't massively enamored of that formula.

It was more the inbetween interview stuff I was talking about. The bits that most of these jocks fill with inane banter and laughing at each others jokes. I always thought they got it pretty good in that regard.

On the subject of afternoon radio shows ...

... they had this thing over here called The Benchwarmers who were syndicated or at least were broadcast across a network of stations in Straya.

There were various incarnations of The Benchwarmers but the best were Ant and Becks. They were piss funny. They got fired and now we're subjected to fucking Hamish and fucking Andy who are stupid and vacuous.

    But i digress ...

    Just saying

    swatting
    ˈswɒtɪŋ/Submit
    nounUSinformal
the action or practice of making a hoax call to the emergency services in an attempt to bring about the dispatch of a large number of armed police officers to a particular address.
"he found out that he was a victim of swatting after police surrounded his home on Thursday"

Chewing with mouth open thing would shit my parents no end, and they drummed it out of us as kids.

Problem is we had a couple of mates at school who were living with just their Dad, and he didn't drum it out of them.

When they were staying at our place, meal times were an exercise in watching how close Mum would get to nuclear.

She never snapped, trapped between her good manners and that of guests. Was icy at the time, but funny thinking back.

But yeah, people chewing with their mouth open shits me - "I had to suffer this fucking education, so you should too!"

@nta Same here. Wife explained how it was something I couldn't stand to her niece and nephew when they came to stay with us recently. After a few days they were much better. All it took was a look.

A bit. Lots of dirtbags there. I went for the first time in 20 years last year; after spending more time in Singapore over the years I found it hot and dirty. And Straits food is more exciting

@canefan I mention it as I was having a quiet cup of coffee in an hotel lounge the other day and there were three young Hong Kong Chinese at the other end of the lounge hoiking up like you would not believe. As it turns out the lounge had very good acoustics. 😧
