I thought it was simply because they were trying to do the casting of Xavier with a similar but younger 'serious' actor in the same way as Ewen MacGregor was cast as Obi Wan
The difference of course is that MacGregor is a fine actor and at least believable as an action star. McEvoy was good in King of Scotland and would probably be right at home in period dramas and as a drug addict but he is not and will never be an action star. -
I tried to watch it couple months back, bored me I never watched the whole thing in the end.
-
watched a bunch of movies on the plane...so were through slightly sleep deprived and alcohol hazed eyes....

friends with kids - a few giggles (cos they are true) but predictable and average
Hunger Games - teenage Version of Running Man...was ok, only cos I think the storyline is decent enough
The Best exotic Marigold HOtel - seemed pretty decent film, some decent laughs, I will need to watch again as my kids annoyed the hell out of me while trying to watch this one so it took me 3.5 hours to watch the 2 hour film! But looked good in what I saw...
Salmon Fishing in Yemen - thought this was very good! Some good laughs although the predictable ending let it down a bit
Rampart - pretty decent action flick with Woody Harrelson as a hard arse dirty cop
This means war - predictable rom-com with Reese Witherspoon
Started watching Wraith of the Titans, didnt really grab me, but I think even if it is an average film, it needs to be watched on a slightly bigger screen...

I did watch others, but none worth mentioing...ended up watching alot of Big Bang and Billy T re-runs to fill in time given I slept for 1 hour in 2 26 hour travel periods... -
Iron Sky - At the end of the War, some Nazi's landed on the moon, where they have lived without detection on the 'Dark side of the Moon'. Now, they want to take over the world. Was ok (5.9/10) short enough not to be a problem, could probably have been better.

American Pie, The Reunion - Typical American Pie humour, if you like it, you'll enjoy some laughs, if not, don't bother. -

Saw Dark Knight Rises last week. It's good.

Plenty of un-believable shit in it, but it's a superhero movie so that's OK. Tom Hardy as Bane is totally badass, although the voice is weird and hard to make out sometimes. And you can't see much of his face, which doesn't help.

There's some great stuff in this movie, not least Anne Hathaway's ass in skintight lycra, but the lamest bit is the cliched endgame.

It's only 12A too, which surprised me, so unless you want kids talking and moving around in front of you, watch a late, late performance. -
Yeah I really liked it too, despite the unbelievable shit - including a guy raised in a hole in the desert sounding like Stephen Fry. -

To be honest Bones, if a guy looking like that started talking to me like that, I'd shit my pants.
Ever wondered what you'd look like with some black contraption covering your mouth Luigi? -

Anne Hathaway completely stole the movie, I had my doubts about her but she was fantastic.

I really enjoyed the film, especially after watching it as part of one long story with the other films. IMO, it's the best interpretation of a comic book hero ever made. Some dumb stuff, but fantastic character development - with real consequences to his decisions and actions.

Great nods to the comics in this version as well, I think this is the closest I'll get to a movie version of the Dark Knight Returns as well. I always wanted that made with Clint Eastwood. -
TDKR is one I'll have to see again. Harry at AICN was livid. He has some valid points, but went overboard. I really liked it, but with a lot of reservations. There were some plot holes that took me out of the movie. I was a big mark for Batman Begins (9.5/10) - saw it at the cinema three times and thought it was the best movie that year, and sold it passionately to my friends, most because of the psychological realism. Holy shit, Batman, this feels real and believable! The casting was superb, and I loved the story. Batman has always been BY FAR my fave comic book super-hero. (Cerebus isn't a super-hero, but that's another story for another day.) I also loved Dark Knight (9/10), though didn't believe it was superior to BB. (Tho' one thing that I missed from the two sequels that I really loved in BB was the way Batman could manipulate a zillion bats to give him cover to enter & exit a building, which I thought bloody brilliant, and then Nolan dropped it.) I really liked how TDKR started - it reminded me of ROTK in the way that it simply picked up the story without having to do a prologue; yet Nolan later threw in some clunky fast flashbacks that were probably justified for new audiences, but for those of us who've seen the first two films, it was unnecessary. Agreed - Anne Hathaway was terrific. So was Joseph Gordon Levitt. I don't want to get into the plot points that I thought were mangled, as they involve spoilers, and I'd recommend anybody who hasn't seen it to go out and see it. (Score: 8/10) Nicest surprises for me was seeing Patrick Leahy as a Board of Directors at Wayne Industries; and Heinz Ward on the football team. (Bloody hell, did we have to get a complete Star Spangled Banner? If so, it should been this version.) My fave comic book movies of all time are still Batman Begins and Kick-Ass, tho' as Kirwan says, Nolan's Batman trilogy should really be measured as a single film. I hope Kick-Ass 2 doesn't drop the ball.

Really enjoyed dark knight rises, probably not as dark as the previous films and over done plot wise. A terrific trilogy that possibly leaves things open for more.
-
Battleship - special effects, lots of shooting and explosions, pretty much what I expected, a bit on the long side for this kind of film (@2.04hours) watchable
-
I agree with Kirwan. Hathaway looked amazing and her portrayal of Selina was excellent.

An excellent trilogy. -
50/50

Excellent movie. Pretty heavy subject matter but more than enough laughs to offset that. Seth Rogen gets to play almost exactly the same character he played in Funny People but this time the film is good.

Gordon-Levett is really good as usual. It would be close to the best movie i have seen in a while. -

Well it had to - they were against the clock! The clock is to blame.
