So much in common. Equally inked. Equally relevant.

Sky TV is refusing to press the panic button despite seeing its annual profits drop by a fifth and the loss of almost 34,000 satellite subscribers.

Wonder what their response will be, put the price up for those that stay, or offer incentives for anyone that has left to get them back?

I only stay with them because we cant get Freeview Satellite at our place, but have the basic package only.

Am only with them for rugby, league, and cricket... if Sky lose any of those I suspect I'd be one of hundreds of thousands pulling the plug on their obnoxious model...

I pulled the pin in January this year. With the kids I got to watch about 2 Super games a month. I go to all the Blues home games, so don't miss any really important stuff. Was working out at $50 a game, and while I love my rugby, I'm not stupid.

Edit: I now watch more with friends, and had fanpass for a while. So not totally cold turkey 🙂

I'm still a sucker for them. I watch a fair amount of ESPN, watch a bit of super rugby and watch test rugby. I also subscribe to bein, I know now that the online football subscription I had a couple of years back was better because it was on demand

Sky has a truly antiquated business model and appalling way of treating customers. That they are still going is quite amazing, if they didn't have the major sport, they would be so fucked. If anyone with a half a brain cell was on their board, they would have been investigating and evolving new ideas for years, so when the tide turned, they would be ready. Instead, it seems, they want to leap over the cliff of no return.

I read Sky is offering 60% discounts to sign up apparently, that's the sort of desperate offers you get from newspapers to subscribe to them

Mrs C.F. lives her reality tv shit on E (dry retch) and I watch mostly espn. The kids watch cartoons. The rugby and cricket I watch, if i could get that content online I would seriously consider it although we would need to try to get fibre again, I wasn't thrilled with the gung ho nature of the chorus techs last time who disappeared when the job looked too tough

    Fuck me, what a dinosaur.

Sky shareholders should be demanding his resignation and that they employ someone who can lead them towards a more sustainable business model.

I cancelled sky about a year ago and moved to fanpass.. what a shit service, and it's getting worse. what do these idiots do? they put up the fucking price for a product that just gets worse and worse.

Pay TV, like the music industry has done with spotify etc needs to embrace the digital marketplace, not complain about it like sky are doing.

It's like these shitty old trash heap restaurants serving nana and grandad food and then complaining that millenials have killed them. If you don't fucking move with the times, you get left behind.

The not so secret secret to success, is giving the people what they want. Not adding shit channels that people don't want and charging them more for it. They should be flexible. See what their most popular channels are, and offer mix and match packages for a set price. Or allow people to build their own selection.

But nooooo. Keep doing the same thing that has been failing for a long time and leaking customers., Oh yeah, and always offer deals and discounts and rewards to brand new customers. Cos why would anyone want to keep their existing client base happy?
