@bovidae Smith deserved it more but maybe there is belief that Slater might call it a career in the off-season. The Storm have their replacements for Cronk and Slater in Croft and Munster.

Pretty boring game once Melb got out to a lead. One way traffic and while there were some good tries it didn't feel like Melb were any chance to lose. That's not their fault though, they were a class above all year.

The Broncos must wonder about what might have been with all those Qlders who've starred for league desert Melbourne. Pretty insane actually.

The funny part of that , Smith trialed with them as a teenager , they said he was too small ,

    Melbourne then picked him up,

But dont mention it in in front of Bennett , he gets pissed off

Smith may never have turned out to be the player he was without Bellamy’s coaching and the non-spotlight that being in Melbourne allows.

Cronk and Slater on the other hand seem to like the limelight a bit more and probably would’ve done the business no matter what team they were on.

NRL is done and dusted so onwards to the Rugby League World Cup at the end of the month! Aussies name their squad tomorrow and Kiwis should name their squad later this week. Bit worried the Kiwis selectors will make some bad picks but the 24 players I would pick would be:

Backs: Roger Tuivasa-Sheck, David Fusitua, Jordan Rapana, Dallin Watene-Zelezniak, Peta Hiku, Dean Whare, Gerard Beale, Brad Takarangi, Shaun Johnson, Te Maire Martin, Kodi Nikorima, Thomas Leuluai
Forwards: Jason Taumalolo, Simon Mannering, Elijah Taylor, Adam Blair (c), Danny Levi, Russell Packer, Martin Taupau, Nelson Asofa-Solomona, Tohu Harris, Manu Ma'u, James Fisher-Harris, Joseph Tapine

    My match-day 17 would be:
1.Roger Tuivasa-Sheck 2. Dallin Watene-Zelezniak 3. Dean Whare 4. Peta Hiku 5. Jordan Rapana 6. Te Maire Martin 7. Shaun Johnson 8. Russell Packer 9. Thomas Leuluai 10. Adam Blair (c) 11. Simon Mannering 12. Elijah Taylor 13. Jason Taumalolo Bench: 14. Kodi Nikorima 15. Martin Taupau 16. Nelson Asofa-Solomona 17. Tohu Harris

Side note to all this: on Saturday we went into Darling Harbour for Comic Con.

My kids wanted to cosplay, ok? And anyway, fuck you guys because, as Little Miss Aussie was dressed as Wonder Woman, ALL the hot chicks in their 20s dressed as WW wanted photos with her. So the viewing was good (my personal favourite was Miss Aquaman, anyway).

Anyhoo, we went out of the convention centre to get some lunch (as did many others), and there were a notable number of people in Cowboys or QLD Orrrrrjn jerseys.

They must have thought Sydney was entirely populated by weirdos 😆

@act-crusader lucky it wasn't in Canberra, or Adelaide, then.

@nta Darling Harbour is my local walking route so I was checking out a bunch of the cosplayers - this year there seemed to be hotter ones compared with the other shows and last year. Lots of cleavage. Annoyingly, this was the first one I couldn't get free tickets to since arriving in Oz so I didn't go .... 😞

@Sneakdefreak You can't worry about the selectors making bad picks and then pick Peta Hiku Kearney. Also, have you factored in all the injuries that will likely occur between now and the cup? Te Maire Martin could be ruled out as they've spent two days talking about how he should have been out for a month ....

How is Thomas Leuluai still a thing?

Also have to give props to the young lady doing The Enchantress - black bikini with a bit of chainmail over the top. She was not a model by any stretch, but she walked with extreme confidence.

@nta I actually saw the two more attractive Wonder Women's in the second pic on the left when I was walking.

@sneakdefreak That team on paper doesn't look as strong as in the past (less of the HUGE names) - but you know they'll do the business when they need to.

There's a lot of fullbacks in the side.

Other than JT, I’m not sure there are any other big names that aren’t there

I don't mean people who are missing from this current team, I mean the big names in comparison with other Oz sides - like in the past a team would have Smith, JT, Slater or Lockyer, Inglis or Hayne in one of his awesome years, or dare I say it a Gallen like forward.

There's a lot of good players in that team, not really many superstars - if you get what I mean?

I was talking to someone at the club , and they reckon that long , nearly 2 year injury break for his shoulder , was a blessing in disguise , really freshened up the rest of his body ,

He was so full of injuries a couple of years ago he was really struggling , was on the brink of retirement then , but now feels ready to play on
