Movie review thread...

I love Dazed & Confused, it's piss funny, and the soundtrack is great.
-
I mention those two movies because if I accidentally trip over them on tv, I cannot change the channel.

Man is that out already? I gotta get me a ticket. The Stallone "interpretation" was perhaps the must disappointing comic-to-movie I've ever seen but the preview for this one looked spesh.<br />
I actually liked Stallone as Dredd . He did a pretty good job but I thought the movie on a whole was let down by some apalling casting . The new one was really good though with Urban as Dredd . -
I haven't seen Goon yet, but I'm really interested in this trailer for the "Last Gladiators" documentary that opens this week. I have a gut feeling ESPN 30-For-30 will broadcast it later this season.<br />

Anybody seen Taken 2? Worth seeing, any good?<br />
<br />
<br />
This may sound silly, but I kind of don't want to tarnish my memories of (the great) Taken by watching the sequel. -
Watched the reboot of Spider-Man last night. Basically a rehash of the previous series of films, some major differences tho ( he doesn't shoot the web out of his arms naturally but invents a device that does it for him). Certainly a big improvement on the craporama that was Spider-Man 3 but no better or worse than 1 and 2.<br />
7/10<br />

Ha, I watched that last night...certainly wasn't amazing like the title wants me to believe! Was ok, not one ill be in a rush to watch again

Saw Killing Them Softly the other night.<br />
<br />
Brad Pitt as a 'wise guy' enforcer/The Wolf type character brought in to sort out some local organised crime incident. Gritty, violent and character-driven. Pitt seems to be choosing his films carefully these days and he's pretty good in this. There's a bit of dark humour, a lot of sleaze and some very matter of fact killing.<br />
<br />
Mr and Mrs Smith it aint. -
Adapted from a book by the writer who wrote The Friends of Eddie Coyle. Andrew Dominic directed. Am looking forward to it. <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/rugby/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

I'm looking forward to it as well - although I hope that Dominik* doesn't pace it as slow as the Jesse James one. That was a good film but the pacing was soooooooooo slooooooooooooooow.<br />
<br />
*Just looked up the spelling of his name and he's another bloody Kiwi poached by the Aussies - TBF their film scouts got him as 2 year old so he fits in the Mils, Joe, Digby bracket of poach rather than the Quade Cooper/Sivivatu.<br />
<br />
I haven't seen Looper which along with Killing Me Softly and the Ben Affleck movie one are the only films I've really been hanging out to see in a long time. -
Although Argo I understand has copped a bit of flak with it's very loose telling of the story....

Do people expect it to be a documentary? From early reports still sounds like it's a good movie even with some of the facts not being followed.<br />
<br />
Either way, I'm keen to see it.<br />
<br />
Hell - it's got Coach Taylor in it! -
My wife made a grave error in judgement and got "Rock of Ages" out on Friday. We made it through 10 mins before i was considering passing the time by attempting to cut my nuts with a spoon. Avoid at all costs.
-
I don't know. There was some generic Hollywood blonde who wasn't that hot, some feminin-looking bloke, Arec Bardwin, and Russel Brand appearing as himself, and that was as many "characters" as i was introduced to before we hit our second cast-wide musical number and the words "fffuuuuuck thiiiiis" passed my lips and it got the ass.

It is total shit, at every conceivable angle. Casting and performances are awful. The script is awful. The soundtrack is extremely lame. Anybody that actually appreciates rock music should avoid. The same people were behind the adaptation of "Hairspray," which was actually surprisingly good and rocked waaaay harder than this crummy piece'o'shite. -
I finally saw Goon, and liked it for the most part. There is a mandatory love interest, but this sureasshit ain't a chick movie. Lots of slo-mo punches to the face with blood flying, and very foul language.<br />

The plot is very simple (and based upon a true story): a bar bouncer (Stiffler from American Pie playing it really-really straight and earnest) who can't skate is recruited by a hockey coach to become the team enforcer. The whole thing is targeted to a showdown with the league's resident (and surprisingly eloquent and philosophical) heavyweight champion (played by Liev Schreiber, who might be the best thing in the film). I especially love the "realism" that the final game, where the showdown occurs, isn't a championship final, but instead a must-win playing for the 8th and final playoff spot. Is it as good as Slap Shot? No. Is it worth seeing? There were several laugh-out-loud moments, so I say "Definitely," even if some of the hockey culture will be lost on viewers. 7/10. -
Not sure what to make of this news, to-day...<br />
