This is going to end badly for the Taniwha, I can feel it

A last ditch effort at a bit of reverse psychology did the trick.

I'm worried about Nepia, it's not like him to refrain from HB Magpies game threads.

Gareth Evans received the man of the match award - well deserved.

His speed off the back of the scrum was impressive, won lineouts, made tackles, scored a try.

K.R. Tremain Memorial Trophy successfully retained,

Manawatu arrived by bus in the morning, and left shortly after the final whistle.

Because Fox didn't show the game live here I was watching on a stream - then clearly the excitement of winning a game was too much for me and about 2 minutes after fulltime I got a migraine that laid me up until this morning.

What that game showed was that we have some talented attacking players, we just need a coach, and a defence coach.

While I'm disappointed we helped Northland I'm extremely glad we got a win over the Poo!

@nepia as Taniwha supporter being at the Magpies game yesterday, that last 30 seconds was like time had stopped,I mentioned to the magpie boys if a keg of Lion Red was sufficient for their efforts in terms of getting the Taniwha home, unfortunately they all drink Tui..Really...!

I don't know who I want to lose worse in your semi final with The cough, splutter, stab myself with a fork Bay.

Anyway, to the game, I hope that the Super selectors were reminded enough of the class of Jonah Lowe from this match and he is duly selected for a team - any team, if the Canes as per usual can't see past Porirua and the Rimutakas.

Maybe, I'm reading too much in the following quote from an interview with Lowe, but to me that sounds like he has a contract with the Canes for next season:

The 2014 New Zealand Secondary Schools rep and 2016 New Zealand under-20 rep knows if he can string some consistent performances together for the Magpies this season it will enhance his chances of cracking a spot in the Hurricanes 23 when the 2018 Super season begins.

"I want to be in the 23 and I want to make my debut for the team," said the veteran of 16 first-class games for the Magpies.
