    I love that!

My mate and I often go on a Saturday morning so I can have an almost free cinema. (On the down low, I'll often by a normal ticket and then go Vmax as well ...)

How is it compared to the original? By all accounts it's the rare case of a sequel completely blowing the first one out of the water....

@mn5 I'd say it's better by a bit, but such a good piece as a sequel.

Similar pacing to the 1982 version. Original (voiceover) I saw as a kid and was somewhat bored. Even the Director's Cut as a teen was a bit slow moving.

This one is similar in that they could have saved a few minutes without some of the long silences and pauses in dialogue.

BUT, I had the advantage of a spot in a ~200 seat cinema with two other people sitting far away from me, so I could drink in all the ambience and really enjoy it without some fucker chewing popcorn or slurping their drink. Or talking throughout.

Fucking hell the shot selection and palette is well ahead of the originals just due to technology.

And the score is, dare I say it, perfect.

Maybe my view of the original is skewed a bit by my younger self expecting too much Han Solo/Indy type action from HF. Even today I'm still unsure whether it's a bonafide classic or not. Still amped to see the sequel sometime this week though.

I think Blade Runner 2049 was the better movie but the original will be the bigger classic. I think the final monologue and the overarching question (what does it mean to be human) contained a lot more depth than anything in the new film. 2049 is hardly a shallow film either but I don't think it will be regarded as highly as the original.

The original is a bit closer to the works from Philip K Dick that it was based on.

This extends it to a degree but then starts to ask whether the human is more important that the near-human.

I never knew until very recently that this song was about Blade Runner....

I assumed I'd done a review of the latest, but I only commented on my re-watch of the original. I think the new one is a much better film.

The original was a classic (cult classic) in my opinion due in most part to it's look and its influence on sci fi imagery from then on. The plot is much smaller in scope than the new one yet seems to take an age to tell it's small story. It is slow moving in ways I don't personally believe it needs to be. Batty's final speech seemed comical to me on the re-watch, but I can't remember my take on it from earlier watches. However the world it sets up is awesome and the new one benefited from that.

I think the new one took all the good stuff, the look, the sound design etc and had better pacing, even though some think it is slow moving. There are plot holes and leaps but all movies have those.

Watched Kingsman:The Golden Circle last night. I LOVED the sharp, clever, endearing first one, so when I saw they had made a second I was YAY.

But fuck. It's shit. I mean there are a couple of laugh out loud moments, and Elton John's fight scene was insanely brilliant, but there aren't nearly enough great aspects to counteract the crap. The plot is overstuffed, which means nothing is given the time it needs to fully develop, and a whole lot of motivations are unclear. The Statesman stuff could have been the fish out of water conflict Brit vs Yank, but that never goes anywhere either, and there are so many gaping plotholes and inconsistencies (they miraculously know how to find and heal Galahad, but when Eggsy and Merlin turn up in gear and with the code they get smacked around and tied to chairs?) and pointless characters like the US president, and Tilde (her stuff with Eggsy just seemed so out of place) and when your male villain has a seriously great motivation in terms of druggies getting their comeuppance, it makes it super hard to cheer when he gets it. Meanwhile in Columbia, there is Poppy, and her scenes were weird as fuck. (The meat grinder...blurg.) Too many tone shifts. Gah.

2 blue veins out of 5 sparkle Elton fight scenes.
