    Mad Max: Fury Road

I've been on long service leave (1 week down, 3 to go thanks for asking 😉 ) and finally got around to watching this.

Does what it says on the box i.e. 2 hour long car exploding car chase.

4 out of 5 dead Megan Gales. It could have been 5 if they'd shown her full-frontal nude. And loses half a mark for killing her.

How long are you off work Nick?...

Sicario was on Netflix, and I had a couple of hours to kill.

Farking hell Benicio del Toro plays a stone-cold badass so fucking well. That scene at the dinner table.... Sheet.

Can draw some lines between the framing, pacing, and score of this and Blade Runner 2049, which is unsurprising given Villeneuve directed both.

4 dead Mexican gang bangers on the Bridge Of The Americas out of 5

    Everest (2015)

Great cinematography. Looks real as hell. Unfortunatley just comes across as another conga line of richie rich egomaniacs pulling themselves to the summit along a communal fucken rope. Where's the actual climbing skills? "BUT I WANT TO GO THE SUMMIT RIGHT NOWWWWW" pleads some cashed-up sook into a driving blizzard, at 2pm, wayyyy the fuck past the cutoff time for a safe descent. The poor bastard guide gets talked into it knowing its a death wish. "Righto then, off we go."

The mountain shrugs and they all die.

Sounds just like the Eiger Sanction with even less plot

Sounds like you need to read Jon Krakauers book to understand (although I get the point that the movie doesn't convey the reality well enough.)
The point of the story is the whole debate (that still goes on) about 'climbers' paying their way to the top and the pressures that then puts on the guides to get them there. Your brain does not function properly in the death zone so not applying rational and sensible decision making has been the downfall (literally) of many a climber whether a relative novice, or a seasoned pro.
Your summary is exactly what the story is trying to convey but, of course, to make it more marketable it does get a bit tangled in trying to portray some goodies and baddies. One particular person gets portrayed as a complete arrogant fuckwit yet that isn't the case in any of the accounts I have read. Guess it was just to make conflict.
Just to your comment about climbing skills. No, Everest is not considered a technical challenge at all now the routes (eg Hillary step) have been overcome and roped. Getting to the top now simply involves a huge amount of determination and guts (and money)

Idris Elba is a TV actor, with no big-screen presence.

Amen to this post Neps. Very good in Rock n Rolla, Prometheus and 28 weeks later among others. Tim has been smoking something.

    Bastille Day.

@Tim has a point though, as his best work is in The Wire and Luther.

He's a decent actor, but he doesn't have the presence to carry lead roles in films.

This was Tim's Big Call ® of the week.

Except that wasn't really Tim's point, if he'd said his best work has been on TV then yeah, I'd agree, but suggesting he has no big screen presence is plainly false.

Hell, he even stands out in Thor where he's just stands around.

He's been mentioned as a possible James Bond. That's pretty good cred

@mn5 It means nothing until he's on screen.

Anyway, he'd be a lousy Bond. Even worse that the current charisma-vacuum.

Yep you're right. Bond is a white guy for starters. Craig is brilliant though.
