Kids today don’t know what they are missing
Growing up in the early 80’s as a kid was defined by a single event. Star Wars, well 3 single events. Episodes IV, V and VI.
Back then you had to see them at the movies as often as you could if you wanted to catch them. Not this YouTube, DVD, or iTunes shit. Often too your local small town theatre wouldn’t show it till it finished in the big city 6 months later.
VHS came about in time for Jedi but even then you had to wait a year after it’s run at the cinema finished.

I can relate to this rant 100%. Also the fact they have three Star Wars in as many years when we had to deal with the drought between 83 and 99.....

    That falcon is awesome.

I'm sure others will agree how awesome it is sharing it with the kids. Weekends with my boys are full of constant questions.....'Why were the Walkers on Hoth tougher than the ones on Scarif?.....why didn't Darth Vader figure out who his kids were earlier?....Who is Snoke?.....why did Kylo Ren lose a lightsaber fight to Rey?....why was Dooku so naive to Palpatines plans?" etcetc.....

I'm sure one day they'll get sick of my constant queries.

@virgil My primary school had two videos only - Star Wars and Mary Poppins, so once every two weeks we got to watch Star Wars on a Friday afternoon.

I don't know how we had Star Wars because I don't think they had videos to own back then.

Oh, and the prequels are just shitty, there's no getting around that. There may have been cheesy stuff/bad scripting/bad acting etc in the originals but not to the extent of the prequels. And the originals were fun. I tried watching the Phantom Menace a few months back and I felt like I was being punished.

The newest ones I've already watched multiple times.

Agree, I haven’t been able to sit through the prequels for years. A few good moments here and there but generally pretty shit. Just totally lacking the magic of the originals.

That's the remake of the 10179 isn't it?

When it came out I really wanted to by it for our son but it was US$500 and couldn't stretch for it. Damn things sell for a fortune now (if still boxed)

Did get him this one though

10178 Motorized Walking AT-AT is a Classic Star Wars set released in 2007 for $129.99. It includes Luke Skywalker, an AT-AT Pilot, General Veers, and a Snowtrooper. The set contains Luke Skywalker...

He actually rebuilt it just before we left to come over when he found the kit packed away. Still works and seems to be missing one part only

Yep it is, the original 10179 went up to around $5k+ sealed, and as much as half that built. This new one I was lucky to pick up ( it sold out world wide in a matter of minutes) will eventually head that way in value too. Which is what I keep reminding my wife about.

Did any of the females in the house help you build it?

Absolutely! It would have been opened in seconds.

I guess collectors will often buy 2 and keep one mint.

We went through the boy's SW Lego stuff from that period and he has some pretty good kits that even if as re-packaged are worth a hell of a lot more than the purchase price.

That’s the beauty of Lego, all sets go up in value. Especially SW sets. As long as you have all the pieces and the instructions. Guaranteed to increase over time. Lego only produces a particular set for a limited time. A year or 2 on average , though popular ones can go for longer.
But they will be retired eventually, so @Crucial id recommend not throwing away you boys collection anytime soon.

If only I could get my hands on it 😉

We always planned along the lines that Lego is timeless and kept all the instructions in plastic folders and all the parts in divided drawers and bins. His kids will have great fun with the 'retro' stuff.
Just been looking on those lego resale sites and this one from his collection has increased in value x6

Dont spoil it for him, he was on another SW moan.

BTW, I watched ESB a few weeks ago and although I love the movie, some of the dialogue and acting is as painful to watch as the ones derided.
Han and Leia in the ice tunnels looks like they did one take, decided it was too cold and left it at that.
As for Luke the whiny little bitch with Yoda.....

Point is, it's a great watch despite all that yet any recent movie gets picked apart so much to find fault.

Ah blow it out your arse. You're the one who was criticising the film. I was just pissed off I couldn't get a Wedge toy when I was a kid.

I remember when they were selling the final stock in the toy shops. I think they cost 50 cents. My brother and I ended up with alot of very minor characters.

I remember a friend of the folks came to visit and gave me this guy....bear in mind this was in the days before I could Google so I had NO idea where he fitted in. Turns out he is in the background when the rebels are being briefed before the Endor mission in ROTJ
