It's probably been done to death already but I saw Sky fall tonight and really enjoyed it. Adele will go close at the Oscars with the theme song, Craig was excellent and Bardem's simpering evil villain was the best I can remember over the last half dozen films at least IMHO. Oh and his ridiculous haircut portfolio has another entry to go with the bowl cut from No country for old men. It also did well to reboot the franchise by introducing familiar characters with a twist like Moneypenny, Q and a a new M. Great stuff

Watched it again last night, as the wife wanted to see it too. It' even better the second time round when you see how carefully it was put together. Great plot and direction. -
I made the mistake of watching "Ironclad" last night, starring the ubiquitous Paul Giamatti and Brian Cox, as well as a growly Marc Antony from "Rome". Utter shit. The director obviously focused on gory deaths rather than, you know, a script that made sense. The premise didn't make sense given the numbers involved either. God it sucked. And yet i watched the whole thing.

Giamatti is one of those highly rated character actors who I think is actually bloody good, as opposed to say, Phillip Seymour Hoffman who is occasionally really good but just usually plays Phillip Seymour Hoffman. -

Looper - I liked it, nothing special, but enjoyable, like one character says, if you start thinking too hard about the consequences of time travel it farks with your head.<br />

Safety not garanteed - low budget film about a Magazine who look to investigate a bizaare ad in a small town newspaper where a guy is advertising for a partner to time travel with him. A reasonably decent film, with a predictable ending. -

[/quote]Oops, lucky I'm probably the last poster to see it haha. Mendes did such a good job, I wonder if they'll give him a repeat gig? I can't remember any repeat directors, certainly not in recent times but this was one of the best Bond films for many years -
Martin Campbell did Casino Royale and Goldeneye. I guess they will save him for the next reboot though. <br />

They have locked in the writer of Skyfall to write the next two, which will be a linked story like Craig's first two Bonds. Apparently they are going to be filmed back to back, which will be a good idea as Craig is starting to look his age. -

So, c'mon, out with it - who's seen it? (Y'know, the premiere of the film that cannot be named.) It's surprising how tightly they've managed to control the review embargo.

The review embargo for Hobbit expired overnite and the reviews are coming in. I'm kinda worried.<br />

The first review dump shows the movie getting a pass, but with reservations.<br />
<br />
Some reviewers reckon the first half is too expository and unnecessary and drags, before the action sequences take over the 2nd half (and this half is what's getting the raves). These reviewers are calling it "indulgent," which doesn't worry me, because there are a truckload of new characters to get introduced, and "indulgent" can also work as "luxuriate" and there will be many viewers who will want to do exactly that - get re-acquainted and luxuriate in that universe.<br />

Then there's the 48 HFR 3D and rumours of unnamed movie goers who felt dizzy and nauseated. That doesn't worry me either, as the same reports about migraines and vomiting were coming out for Avatar and other 3D movies which are not HFR.<br />

No, what is worrying to me is the projection of these HFR files. They are mightily expensive projection systems, but reading about some of the projection problems in the reviews - frames dropping, blurring, the characters running in 1.5x "Benny Hill" speed ... (presumably from frames freezing and the projector rolling through the frozen frames in fast-mo rather than jump-cutting to get re-synchronized) ... gulp. It sounds to me that the files are massive and some of these projectors RAM isn't high enough to render the frames smoothly enough, and I'm worried the new High Frame Rate technology (which could be a real game-changer) will be D.O.A. because these projection systems can't handle the load. I'm really crossing my fingers this isn't a major debacle.<br />

I was gung-ho to see it first in HFR 3D, and am now debating whether I should watch it in regular 3D first, and then later in HFR 3D, as I don't want my first viewing spoiled by a projector that can't perform the job. -
Yeah, and indulgent also can be linked with people with a short attention span = 5min without action!!?? BORING!! Sure it isn't a long story but there are a lot of characters to establish. I'm ok with a slower pacing to begin with. We are trying to get tickets at the Embassy so it'll be 48 HFR (and 3D I think). Can't wait!

Dunno Kirwan, he looked in pretty awesome shape and without giving too much away it has to be remembered that the character has a few issues to deal with which explained a bit of a "weathered" look. Grey facial hair doesn't help either. You're right though, absolutely no reference to the first two Bonds that he did but if you look at past ones they can't really be treated as a chronological "series" as such although in "On her majestys secret service" ( which I think is one of the best, don't care what others think ) there is a bit of a poignant moment where George Lazenby reminisces about all the shit that Sean Connery got up to. <br />

Roger Moore was 58 when he did View to a Kill and whilst the tone of those movies was obviously pretty different ( although that one also featured an awesome bleach blond lead villain ) I think he did the job pretty damn well. His stunt double sure got up to a few hi jinks. I think Craig has the gig for as long as he wants it personally..... -

Unless I am mistaken, all the HFR "reels" are projected 3D, and all the 2D projections will be regular 24FPS. -
I heard some radio guys up here raving gobsmacked about the HFR 3D experience, they are not LOTR or Hobbit fans, and they were blown away. That's encouraging.<br />

I never really required the persuasion - I was already sold in theory - but I'm still worried about the reliability of the projector. Despite the worry, I think I will go first to the HFR 3D, which is the intended format.
