Welcome to to age of internet/online news. Would they have forked out for the cost of printing these stories in paper when it was the only source of news?
Fuck no, but it’s easy to run these bullshit puff pieces now. I can only assume there’s a team of untrained ‘journalists’ who’s only job is too hunt down to ‘write’ this shit. Post online then wait for the clicks.

Yeah, the internet has changed journalism for the worse. As you say the cost of printing, but also the way advertising revenue is based on how many clicks a particular story gets, which leads to the media trying to over dramatize everything to maximize clicks for more revenue. So anything that may cause "outrage" gets front and centre.

Another example of this is H&M running an ad with a black kid wearing a hoody with the words "coolest monkey in the jungle". Completely pure intentions, and the kids mother has absolutely no problem with it.

    Hang on...

They put a black kid in a hoodie and linked him to being a monkey...and claimed to have the purest of intentions? And the idea that this could generate some sort of shitstorm never occurred to anyone on that marketing team?

Well, I'd say that team are either idiots or liars.

I reckon, if Trump has taught us anything, it's that there's a fair degree of truth in the old saying of there being no such thing as bad publicity.

I'm highly suspicious that a lot of these marketing "fails" are intentionally designed to generate outrage and publicity.

In recent times, I suspect Lorde's marketing team over her Israel concert. I bet that has done no harm in building profile and gaining spotify hits (not least in Israel).

The sausage company - they probably don't have a marketing team as such. So a somewhat crass joke gone wrong, but some notable spin - "We believe it's important people know where their food comes from".

Really? Why? How will that help your business? What previous efforts have you made in this regard?

We are surrounded by bullshit! 🙂

@virgil I expect they have a bot that just picks up 'news' from Reuters and publishes is on NZH (Stuff probably do same) for a chunk of their fairytales news with little or no human involvement or editing.

@Chris-B oh absolutely, many companies are cashing in on the faux outrage for publicity. That doesn't make it a good thing (not that you're implying that). You see it all the time with celebrities that have movies or new albums coming out.

The H&M thing was a picture of one of the hoodies they sell on their website. The kid, and other models, were wearing all different types of hoodies and clothes. Are we saying "coolest monkey in the jungle" is an inappropriate hoody? Or is it only inappropriate for black kids, but white kids can wear it no worries? Or can we just tell the morally superior people yelling racism at every little thing to go fuck themselves? I (and the mother of the kid) way prefer the latter.

I think the latter was the crux of the issue with the restaurant in chch for me. I suspect Asians probably didn't care or get offended but the white lib SJWs went into bat for them instead purely cos they were so pleased to find something to be outraged about.

    @no-quarter Who knows! 🙂

But, since you've drawn my attention to this, I now know there is a company called H&M who sell clothes on the internet - where previously I didn't, so there's a win to them - though I doubt it will do them much good.

But, if I'm correct and they've done this monkey trick on purpose then haven't they exploited black people for their own gain? In which case, shouldn't we be outraged and assaulting them with a variety of hashtags?

Life was a lot simpler when we didn't have the internet! 🙂

@Chris-B haha, yeah, those were simpler times. In my opinion we, and everyone else, shouldn't give a shit because it's just a bloody hoody.

@antipodean invite her to lunch at Anton's:

    HOME | animals

I actually had a look at their website because I not only like animals but think that they are delicious. I really don't have a problem with the contradiction and the chooks in my garden are just the lucky ones that aren't on my plate.

The contact page for Anton's had this:

"Feel free to contact us with questions or special requests regarding animals you would like to see exploded in flames with a stick up their arse"

    They are in San Francisco...

@rocky-rockbottom That's pretty good - a lot of time on your hands - and I am a little disappointed that you don't have a larger audience to outrage. Don't like San Fran anyway so no reason to go back other than

Yeah noodling is pretty out there . The irony is the cow she was butchering was injured and she put it out of its misery then butchered it and the vegans targeted her over that. They seem to prefer harassing female hunters for some reason , there was this sad case last year.

@rocky-rockbottom Actually just looked at the website - rather than just where it was.

Not really anything that you won't see in parts of Asia but love the menu, some fusion there.

I’m not sure, there’s probably some truth in that though.

After the way she stunk up cgw with her backward politics I’m sure the comments on this will be both hilarious and scathing

@jegga TBF, I doubt she will be any worse than Mum who was always gushing over Jacinda...near the end of her time with Breakfast, I actually think she had mellowed somewhat as she knew Tame had the mantle of biggest tosser on TV secured.

@mn5 JFC. Not that I watched Seven Sharp or Breakfast before, but knowing Hils and Hayley are the leads now, my decision is locked in stone. Can't stand either.
