Kong: Skull Island. Firstly, new Kong is fuuuuuuucking massive. Like, ridiculously so.
Brie Larson has a nice rack.
This is a pretty dumb movie. But i didn't hate it. Good monster fight at the end.
Watch hungover, like i did. Keep expectations to a minimum.

Great rack indeed
I think they made Kong bigger because he’s going to be in a cross over film with Godzilla next.

And yes, Brie Larson, she adds to any movie.

Rack was sensational. By far the best part of the movie.

Pierce Brosnan one's were poor but the proof is in a franchise that's been going strong for 56 years with at least one ( no doubt more) movies confirmed in the near future.
My second favourite franchise ever, easily.
Goldeneye is easily one of the best of the Bond films. (Said as a not huge Bond fan, a found the most recent one tiresome and left 20 minutes before the end - TBF I did have a ferry to catch). It also spawned an awesome video game!
Having re-watched all the Bond films over the last few years, I find that several of them don't bear re-watching at all. The later ones in each of the stars' reigns seem to be so much worse than the earlier ones. Consider Dr No, From Russia with Love or Goldfinger in comparison to Diamonds are Forever. Live and Let Die with Octopussy, Goldeneye with Die Another Day, Casino Royale with anything that came after. The law of diminishing returns or is it just directorial hubris?

I enjoyed this. Could have done with a little less Willsmithing but overall was exactly what it looked like: a movie backed by Netflix based on an idea that wasn't quite there, but did reasonably well.
I liked how it didn't bother going into the entire back story of this alternate universe with some cheesy voice over. Just drops you straight into things and lets you figure it out.
Good soundtrack, too.

Really don't get the panning by critics myself. Watchable action/buddy cop movie.

Kicks: A film about a teenager who gets his shoes stolen by some thugs who beat him up and his quest to get them back. Interesting little indie film set in the suburbs of Oakland/San Fransisco and in Oakland itself. Different from a black themed movie from the usual inner city and LA backdrops. It reminded me a bit of Dope. 4 Airs out of 5 Jordans.
The Shape of the Water: Del Toro's latest film, I'm not a huge fan of his although love Pans Labyrinth, about, well it's probably better not to say. Very trippy story, felt French in that quirky, Amelie way. 3 eggs out of 5 lime pies.

I saw Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri tonight. Mrs JC wanted to see it after Frances McDormand won the Golden Globe for it. I was in two minds as a movie about a mother whose daughter was raped and murdered had all the makings of a very depressing night out.
Wrong.
What a fucking brilliant movie. McDormand, Woody Harrelson and Sam Rockwell are just outstanding, and the rest of the cast are spot on. Some proper laughs (some of which are just wrong), unexpected twists, much more violence than I expected and a few bits that were difficult to watch.
Go and see it.

I saw it over a month ago. It was pretty good. 3.5 of of 5. Some real plot contrivances. Mostly unlikeable characters, Everything gets solved by violence, usually lashed out in revenge against innocent people rather than perpetrators. (And this is sometimes played for laughs.)

Fantastic film I thought. Frances MacDormand is imho one of the greatest actresses around today. I’m a huge fan of Sam Rockwell too* , he was brilliant in that film I thought as was Harrelson .
Not exactly an easy film to watch but well worth it.The Florida project is similar in a lot of ways, lots of black comedy , scenes that are uncomfortable to watch. Willem Defoe is outstanding I though in that film as are the kids and the main parent.
Not sure if it’s still on at theatres though.*if you haven’t seen Moon or The way way back do yourself a favour and watch them . It shows what bullshit the Oscars are that he didn’t win one for either film.

It never seemed like anybody was acting and it was like secretly watching some people’s quite shit lives spiral into inevitable disaster. Defoe was brilliant and for me the biggest shock of the film was how his character’s decency seemed so out of place.
I don’t have any doubt that there are plenty of places like that all over the US but seeing it on film is as close as I need to get. It made me think about all the times I’ve driven on freeways past places like that and never given a thought to the desperation that lives outside my air conditioned windscreen. Unfortunately President Trump doesn’t really have to look overseas if he wants to find shitholes.
BTW, the lady who plays Halley is some actress. Or else she’s just playing herself and she’s going to die very young.

That was the woman who plays Halley’s first acting role apparently, the director discovered her on Instagram selling marijuana themed clothing and she had the look he wanted. When you take that into account she was incredible, I think those tattoos are going to limit her career though.
Agree about Dafoe, part of his research was working with some real “ hotel” managers to see what goes on in those shitholes.
Watching it you knew there was no possible way it was going to have a happy ending, it stayed with me for a while afterwards too.
