Love that it was announced by the planes captain that booney had broken the record.
If that happened these days the flight crew would be sacked and we wouldn’t hear the end of it.

Yea but the "crap from Stuff" thread would be great fun for about a week. Think of the outrage articles

And airlines cared more about the comfort of their guests, and their ability to get wankered on a long-haul, than their bottom lines.

Ah yes. Hot women used to be able to sit on the jump seat (not a euphemism) and not hidden away behind a bullet proof door. When you asked for a beer (as a passenger) they gave you a six pack because they couldn't be bothered coming back to you every 5 mins, just every 30. As for airline's bottom lines - that is why the fun went out of the flying job and the world is screaming for pilots to take them places. Supply and demand is pushing salaries up nicely though.

As for the PA - I would have done it back then too (and delivered a tequila shot to the fat prick).

@snowy I remember as a lad being allowed to visit the pilot on the deck of a 747. That's one thing CF Jnr will never get to experience 😞 Oh and metal cutlery (except on Business class funny enough. Don't they think that terrorists can afford to fly business?)

    9/11 changed everything.

That reminds me of this. A classic scene.

It really is a shame. Fuck Bin Laden.

We used to let passengers on the flight deck for take off and landing (which most airlines wouldn't do). It was fun and I don't think that any of them walked away thinking that computers did all of the flying.
I had a sim instructor on the jump seat (for an observation flight) during a landing in a Typhoon - he pretty much shat himself and he knew what was happening. It could be quite an experience - even if you were in charge - ish - mother nature has her say too.

As for metal cutlery and terrorists - just ask that stupid model on the "absolute crap" thread" how effective a bottle is, even before it is broken. How many of those are on board? Without knowing what airlines pay for cutlery, I do know that plastic weighs a lot less than metal. Weight is fuel, and lots of it on a long haul. We are back to airlines and bottom lines, maybe that is just my cynicism.

I should mention a TV series as this thread has completely derailed, even for the fern.

    I liked Seinfeld...

I want it to be true. So much. I love the nostalgia of what cricket used to be like. Or at least, what we are led to believe it used to be like. A simpler time, when our athletes were also piss rats. And airlines cared more about the comfort of their guests, and their ability to get wankered on a long-haul, than their bottom lines.

There's an extensive analysis in google books - "The best australian sports writing 2004" in a story called "Fifty-two not out."

Doesn't seem to throw up a url that works.

Watched first couple eps of Altered Carbon...so far so good.

I like James Purefoy, Kinneman has bulked up (unless they use a double) come a long way since his scrawny awkaward days of The Killing (which seemed to be his break)

Few tidy females and a bit of t & a.

I just wish that the dialogue wasn’t so mumbled. It’s probably just me being an old bugger, but there are too many shows now where half the effort is trying to hear what the characters are saying

After a great start the nudity tails off, the violence stays at a level I find acceptable though.

Joel Kinnaman won't be back for S2 (if greenlit) as he has signed for another series - Amazon's adaptation of Hanna.

Kovacs wears different sleeves of different ethnicities across the three books so perhaps that was expected.

    Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency

Netflix series based on a Doug Adams character I've never read about, its quite dotty. Pretty good performances from some Pommy guy and Frodo. The actress playing the wannabe Federal agent is, in a word, gorgeous.

There are two seasons which are equally insane but for different reasons. Worth a look if you're into off-the-wall stuff.

They cancelled before the third season went ahead, and while I'm mostly Ok with that, part of me wants to see where they were going.

4 cult members out of 5 rowdy 3s.

After a good start's it's turned pretty unwatchable at a rapid rate of knots in my opinion. Seriously boring now ( I don't give a fuck how Purefoys character 'died' ) although the t & a is still decent.

One of the downsides of the explosion of Netflix/Amazon made shows is that there gets to be a lot of promise around shows they have shelled out big money to make. The shows themselves end up looking great but aren't engaging.
One of the best streaming shows I have watched in the past year was Ozark. Quality writing, acting and performances
    Totally under promoted

Yeah Ozark was great. Can't wait for season 2.

AC looks great and the fight scenes and SFX are as good as anything you'll see in a movie but as I said the story and premise is boring as fuck.
