The original studio version with the corny narration is a horrible movie to watch. The directors cut was the one I saw first and I loved it, still do. But when ever there is a version on Stan or Foxtel its always the original. The voice over is honestly enough to not watch it.

I was disappointed with the pacing of 2049. The story was good and there were some excellent visuals which fit the tone and style of the original but the movie was too fucken long and Jared Leto.

the reviewer raises a pertinent question.

I honestly have no idea what that movie is by the way.

When I was watching Del Toro’s bathtub “sex scene” between the mute woman and the Creature From the Black Lagoon, I understood Del Toro’s restraint not to show the dick and push the camera right in, but was bitterly disappointed he couldn’t match the hardcore inter-species porn of Vincenzo Natali’s masterful “Splice” where Adrien Brody is caught by his wife (Sarah Polley) having sex in a barn with, the, ummm, mutant creature beast from the Island of Dr Moreau-“thing” that will either make you laugh your ass off or blow chunks. (Del Toro was an executive producer on that film too, maybe he thought the better of it afterwards.)

Was it long or did it just seem long????

I pretty much lost interest when Batistas character got dealt to so easily ( as an aside I think he's easily the best WWE actor ever )

Too much stylistic wank and not enough gripping storyline for mine.

I prefer new Bladerunner to old Bladerunner (any version) - a recent re-watch of the old one suggests to me it's highly overrated as a film. I'm not saying it's shit, but I don't think it deserves its hype.

The Shape of Water is a pretty average Oscar winner. Although I liked the world (the cold war setting) of it but would have preferred a non fantasy storyline to go with it (but it is Del Toro). I didn't come out of it not liking it, but it was way too whimsical.

Of the best nominees I think Get Out was probably the best, followed by ITonya and Three Billboards. Although, I haven't seen them all this year.

Get Out was really good although to me it just seemed like a better version of a typical thriller/horror, not exactly Oscar Material. Three billboards is the kind of flick that the Oscar judges just absolutely lap up, I did enjoy it despite its abrupt and unsatisfying ending.

Get Out was a second tier John Carpenter movie without any of the style.

I don't actually think of Oscar style movie when I think of Three Billboards, I guess Frances McDormand screams Oscar but the director and movie seems a bit R rated for their usual tastes (but then they voted for fishman shagging film so what do I know). Anyway, Three Billboards was a good watch but I don't think it's as good as his In Bruges or his brother's The Guard.

I really enjoyed Get Out, it was like a John Carpenter movie with style. 😉

Watched Darkest Hour. Really enjoyed it, can absolutely see why Gary Oldman won Best Actor. Wish they'd finished with a few scenes showing what happened with Dunkirk, ie a huge victory for him rather than just some text saying most of the men were rescued, but other than that, all good.

Well, they did make a movie about it.

I don't. Layers of plasticine and makeup did most of the work. He really just needed to adopt an accent. His array of work means he should have been rewarded long before now in my opinion. I consider John Lithgow's version in The Crown is better.

    Watched Justice League

I liked it, but I think the problem with DC stuff is they seem to take themselves too seriously and try to be dark without a storyline to match.

They did try to add some humour in there like the Marvel stuff, but still not there.

    Superman is still a douche.

Watched Red Sparrow and Game Night recently (have tickets I need to use by April so going to lots of movies at the moment).

Red Sparrow - Jennifer Lawrence is a Russian spy, you see her or her body doubles boobies (for those that want that) and Joel Edgerton is the US spy trying to convince her to be a double agent. Kind of ok, way too much plotting going on. 2.5 busted ballerina legs out of 5 sex spies.

Game Night: A comedy mix up of the movie The Game. No boobies but stars Rachel McAdams (hot and funny) and this black chick I have never seen before who was off the charts hot. Coach Taylor and Landry are in it as well, Landry playing the creepiest cop ever. Jason Bateman and Winston from New Girl are the main guys. Saw it in a decently packed theatre and everyone was cracking up most of the way through. 4 bullet holes out of 5 cracked eggs.

I'm trying to watch Gone Baby Gone, but jesus christ what is Affleck doing with that accent? I've met plenty of people from Boston, and none sound even remotely like that.
