@jegga you do realise we have had this EXACT conversation already but it gives me an excuse to Google images of Jewel so I apologise to no one.
You should apologise for only posting one photo.

while, technically correct, I bet this will be going down well
He’s right tho, being a mother or father isn’t a job. It’s a choice.
It’s fucken hard ‘work’ there are times I long to escape back to work!
But it’s not a job. -
I should add my wife does home based child care, best thing we ever came across. It’s allowed her to be at home all the way through our girls upbringing ( both now at school) while earning a pretty decent crust ( awesome tax breaks) looking after up to 4 other peoples kids every day is definitely a job. She has paper work fills out reports has to follow set plans for each kid. She loves it but it’s not the same as raising our 2 girls ( ours are much worse :))

So stuff basically ignores the whole Labour kiddie camp sexual assault thing because they'd rather shit out pieces like this
https://www.stuff.co.nz/life-style/parenting/102406537/ways-in-which-motherhood-is-exactly-like-work
It is hard work. But if you don't like not getting paid for it don't have kids!
-
I find this whole conversation sexist.
I am triggered.
I have amended the above sexist post accordingly...

Perhaps co-parents should be paid by their partners for looking after their kids and running the household?

@taniwharugby Pretty sure Richardson is becoming more and more of a tosser as he ages.
Rigor is always gonna have a place in my heart ( By default along with any NZ batsman with a 40 plus test batting average ) but it does seem to me he says inflammatory shit just for the sake of it. He does come across as quite the dickhead.

Not sure I agree with you here.
It's not a "job".
He's saying what quite the vocal majority of TSFers are saying.

Yeah but being a dick about it

@booboo What quite the vocal majority of men who aren't primary caregivers, you mean.
Yeah probably.
But take the gender roles out of it.
Mumming and Dadding aren't jobs. They're roles in a family.
Mrs boo did not get paid for staying home and looking after Ms boo jr. Which she did for the most part of her childhood. She did it because she elected to, she wanted to and I had the greater earning capacity. It made sense for us.
It wasn't a "job".
We received income assistance ("Family Tax Benefit" part A & part B IIRC), which is not pay for the job of being Mum. We also received income from my employment. Which paid for our family.
When I was at home and became "Dad" it wasn't a job either. It was being a family.
Not sure I'm expressing this well. And I agree Richardson knew he was poking the hornetts' nest, but I really don't think he is wrong.

I saw this Seppo comedian who was taking the piss out of Oprah, which is always amusing. His stance on her introducing a woman that had "the hardest job in the world. She's a Mother". Was tell that to the guys who worked 40 years down a coal mine and are enjoying emphysema.
There is a difference between doing something that is sometimes tough and something that is a job and just hard bloody work.
Parenting can be tough and if you're the primary carer it can be bloody tiring, but...

@antipodean said in Alternative needed from the absolute crap of stuff.co.nz:
@crucial Do you (generic use) mean job/ work as in effort or employment? Being a parent is clearly the former, not the latter.
Thats what I mean. No use debating whether something is a job unless you define job. Otherwise everyone argues from their own interpretation.

Having very scientifically scanned through the comments on stuff and NZ Ferald it’s reassuring to see around 87.56% ( I made that up, but it’s high very high) of people agree parenting is not a job.
So who the fuck keeps pushing this ridiculous counter claim that it is?
