Meatbox do wagyu steak. I've had the short rib which was next level. They have a 2kg chuck roast for 99 bucks, I was trying to work out what my excuse could be to get my hands on one and put it in my smoker

@hooroo I was wondering if anyone here would know if it was just good marketing, or there was more to it. Of course, it can be worth paying a little more for something that is reliably good (e.g. low pH so the protease enzymes tenderise the meat effectively during ageing).

I normally buy the ribeye from my local butcher or New World for about $30/kg, if I want something nice. It seems to be pretty good. Found their eye fillet to be a bit bland though.

My sister buys the "AngusPure" brand, so was interested to try it recently.

We breed White Galloways for two reasons. I think it is the best meat I have had and they look really cool too with their white body by black ears, nose, massive eye lashes and black feet.

If you are in Auckland, pop into Neat Meat Ponsonby and splash out for a steak there. They will talk you through the many breeds and also some of the aging. You pay a premium but get the true quality.

Meh, I'm not a massive fan of bacon. And it shits me that it's now on everything.

I have found i prefer vegetarian options at breakfast these days for some reason.

Don't get me wrong, a decent fry up of bacon and eggs absolutely has its place, but that place is few and far between for me.

This. It’s overrated imho and the way Americans eat it is a travesty.Steak and eggs or gtfo.

    Allah Akbar.

    It's allahu

Is that the same as the Neat Meat in Queenstown? Has the primals aging in cabinets with origin tags showing breed, age, where farmed etc? Meat paradise.

Its pretty farken random and interesting but I don't think I would go around saying I caught NZ's first landbased marlin after making a catch like that in that manner. A mate of ours lassooed one in the shallows at omaha with her dog leash about 8 or 9 years ago. Not that different to this guys catch given it came off the hook 50metres or so out and was then dragged in to shore!

    Still bloody cool catch!

There was that story not long ago of a surfer who caught himself a huge snapper. The fish was just sitting at the surface when he grabbed it, likely it was sick or injured.
Can be some tinny fish stories out there

Tinny bastard. It's like the fish couldn't be bothered anymore and was begging to be caught

There was a kid doing beach patrol on Paraparaumu about 6 years ago that found a bluefin tuna in the surf. Silly bugger left it in the chiller while he waited for someone to make a mould of it and it was well past it’s best by the time they got to eat it. It must have been in a bad way to be struggling in the surf in the first place imho.

@jk yea I always remember talking to a dude who was fishing off the rocks for Kingi, and he hooked into a small stripey, he reckons watching the km or so of line go off his reel was the most exhilarating 10 mins of his life.

He's obviously never had a decent root in his life.

I had a marlin (think black) pass in between the rock and I was standing on and my livebait once not far from cape brett! Closest I've come.

Also got spooled by something up the top of coromandel one year which basically dived down a few metres from the surface and headed for great barrier. Took 350m of 24kg line pretty quickly. Couldnt even even slow is down!

@mn5 TBF, it was a purely fishing conversation (when I was working in a Sports shop) so easy to use a bit of hyperbole when in that moment...

Returning to the important subject of bacon. I arrived in the office at 6:15 as usual and discovered the Ops crew were having a cooked breakfast. Now the office area reeks of fried bacon. I am not happy. Where's the bosses bacon huh - huh?

My bacon alarm just went off. Minor semantic issue there. Technically it couldn't "reek" of bacon because it's bacon and impossible to smell bad.

Oh, and fire the lot of them. Bastards, that is just cruel.
