@kiwipie Kyle Jamieson is going to be annoyed - he's got a century against England, but his highest first class score remains 40*!

He's an interesting prospect - disturbingly he's listed on Cricinfo as right arm medium, but I think he's quicker than that - google says he can bowl at 135kms.

Most interestingly, he's the same height as Sam Whitelock, so if they can find another 5+ kms in him, he might be very awkward!

    He's an extremely promising bowler.

130ish kph would be his current limit.

The seam bowling depth in NZ is the best I have ever seen it, by a distance. I'd say there are about a dozen international quality seam bowlers in NZ at the moment.

Although Jamieson would be the only one of those dozen or so I'd see as a likely lad for success in a 3rd (or 4th) seamer role.

What' the weather like in Auckland today?

I'm imagining we're going to lose a fair bit of time in this test match - what can we expect playing test cricket in late-March/early-April!

@chris-b it's Auckland, there will be moisture, and not the good kind.

Hot and dry, I’m north in silverdale but it’s a lovely day in New Zealand’s great city, the playground to stars like Barrack Obama and Max Key

I'm giving this an upvote for some wit in the last sentence.

Kane wins the toss and NZ will bowl. Root would have batted anyway.

There's a bit of swing for Trent and Timmy - more for Tim, I think - but, nothing untoward.

Cook has played a couple of false shots - a mistimed pull shot that lobbed back over the bowler and mid-on... and now Boult gets him caught at 2nd slip!

What a gem from Boult to get Root.

The world's most overrated all rounder is at the crease already. We could be batting by lunch at this rate.
