@virgil I loved the first Deadpool. And that is a great trailer.
Its so quotable, my new one for motivating my family to get ourselves organised is "lets get our Fuck on!"
or "what in the Fucksicle?!" -
Just saw Thor Ragnarok, it deserves all the plaudits it got. Looked great, excellent characters and dialogue. Blanchett was an outstanding evil villain, Taika's Thor was a lot more interesting than ever before, the valkyrie was easy on the eye and Taika's rock man stole the show. 5 sisters scorned out of 5 planet killing fire demons

That opening scene still has me cracking up. Hold on while I rotate back around

So many good bits. "I know him, it's a friend from work!" "I don't like the S word. OK how about the prisoners with jobs for no money?" Basically everything that Taika said

Between Taika and Dennison overseas audiences must think we are very odd people. Either that or they don't understand half the jokes but still find it funny.
After that evidence, I'd be fascinated to see Waiti do a Star Wars film. As long as he has full creative control. One of the peripheral stories, the main trilogy is too narrow storywise

I watched this Netflix Iraq war movie called Sand Castle - about a an airborne squad tasked with delivering water. It got panned by critics but I thought it was actually blood good and quite interesting. Superman was in it and he's a decent screen presence when Hack Snyder isn't directing him.
I wonder if critics are unduly harsh on Netflix produced films because they equate them with Direct to video?

Agree with all of that . Enjoyed it as much as you could considering the subject matter. I agree there does seem to be a fair bit of snobbery about the newer networks.

Well Steven Spielberg Doesnāt Think Netflix Movies Should Qualify for Oscars and I think he's got a point when he says:
āI donāt believe films that are just given token qualifications in a couple of theaters for less than a week should qualify for the Academy Award nomination,ā he continued.
I'd go even further and demand that any movie in colour, or with sound, should be automatically banned. Hand back your Oscars you twat.

@antipodean although 'Screeners' are distributed solely for Award consideration, how is that different?
Awards are a sham anyway!

Finally got around to watching The Last Jedi. It was...ok? I thought a bit self indulgent with the length, there was a lot of random stuff they could have easily edited out. I think i was most disappointed by the First Order. Hux was too cartoonish, and I still think Kylo Ren is a joke as a villain. There is no actual menace about him, he always feels like a pouty rejected swain who turns stalkerish. And the way they took out the Supreme Leader, bitch please. Rey, Poe, Finn, Rose were cool characters. I get the feeling DJ is going to appear again. And I wonder how they are going to deal with Leia in the next one.
