Love that movie. One of Arnie's finest. Out-Bonded Bond at the time with one of the coolest gadgets ever - a fucking Harrier Jump Jet - take that James and your silly sports car. Oh and they actually show terrorists letting off an A-bomb in the US. Brilliant. -
The scene with (Tom) Arnold in the toilet stall taking about "blowing out the O-ring" always makes me laugh.

Searching for the Sugarman

Documentary about Rodriguez who was a forgotten musician from Detroit in the late 60's early 70's that became bigger than Elvis in South Africa. Enjoyed it very much.

I very much want to see this and have been waiting for it to come to our local flicks since it was released. -
Here Comes The Boom. Here Comes The Boredom would have been a better name.

I love MMA. I like Bas Rutten. I love Salma Hayak. Kevin James is OK. So I decided to watch this. Its formulaic, cliched and although I didnt pay enough attention to check Im sure its a Happy Madison production.

Bas Rutten is a funny man and I think potentially he could do have been fantastic as an off beat MMA teacher but they reigned him in.

Salma Hayak still all kinds of hot at 46. She'll still be all kind sof hot at 56 probably. -
End of Watch - documentary style story of two LAPD partners working in the East LA area.Once I got used to the hand held video shots I found the movie very absorbing. The ending was a little predicatable, but did not detract from the impact. HIghly recommended for anyone who liked the Wire.

Skyfall

I did not like it. I loved the first two reboots but this one made no sense. Some gripes below.

Word Association Country - England ( Fine accept 2 hours later you reveal you're Scottish)
James Bond can be shot twice fall 100 ft off a bridge into a raging river be unconscious, yet he survives its never explained and he only has one bullet hole not two.
We have a super hackers computer lets plug it directly into our own network. (Cause that's a really good idea)
I am a super hacker here is a map on my computer that you can track me with. (I wanted to get caught, but felt leaving the map on the computer I knew you would take would make this more interesting for all of us)
James Bond owns another James bonds Aston, but its never explained.
The bread crumb trail that leads Silver to Bond is a literal trail of dots on a map.
Lets drive 12 hours to the highlands but wait till we get there to see if the place is actually defendable.
I have a hidden tunnel in the house where I could hide the person I am trying to protect, nah lets give the old bat a gun and see how she gets on. -

True Lies is a terrible film, but an awesome guilty pleasure. Tom Arnold is the best thing in it, he's hilarious and has some great one-liners.
True Lies rocks . Great one liners , deliciously cheesy action , and of course Jamie Lee Curtis doing that strip . -

I just watched it last night, I thought it was ok as a switch off your brain action movie. It appears you left your brain on .... I thought it was better than the 2nd one of Craig's by a very large margin.

Some of you points are hilarious! Good stuff. (Aside from the other Bonds car - I think it's all just the same Bond isn't it?)

I watched Mt Zion the other day, I enjoyed it, although it could have done with much better editing. Stan Walker was ok, as were his two mates, the ghost chips guy and Tama from Shortland Street. My mate was most impressed by the old footage integrated with the move - although RB ruined that for me on the Gigs thread!

One thing that annoyed me with it was that some of the language was too contemporary - it was the language of today transplanted in the late 70s. -
I loved it, but for fun I thought I would take a crack at your complaints (below in red). Worth pointing out that logic has no place in a Bond film, never has, never will.
Word Association Country - England ( Fine accept 2 hours later you reveal you're Scottish)
All that revealed that he lived in Scotland when he was kid, not his nationality.
James Bond can be shot twice fall 100 ft off a bridge into a raging river be unconscious, yet he survives its never explained and he only has one bullet hole not two
This certainly could have been handled better. The credits do show him being fished out by a woman, and the bullet being in fragments in his chest is a plot point later on, and it he mentions it broke his collar bone so I guess that stopped it exiting
We have a super hackers computer lets plug it directly into our own network. (Cause that's a really good idea
Over confidence, hubris, and a supiority complex from Q. Silver knew these guys remember, so played on their character flaws
I am a super hacker here is a map on my computer that you can track me with. (I wanted to get caught, but felt leaving the map on the computer I knew you would take would make this more interesting for all of us)
That's just a problem with presenting that sort of information in a film. They do take suspension of disbelief pretty far at times, but again, that's consistent with Bond (Bases in volcanoes, etc)
James Bond owns another James bonds Aston, but its never explained.
Bond is basically a snob. It makes perfect sense that he would own a classic car, and the choice of car is an obvious easter egg.
The bread crumb trail that leads Silver to Bond is a literal trail of dots on a map
The detail of what the dots represent just aren't important. Could be using a credit card for gas, or anything. All that's important is the fact they are leaving a trail
Lets drive 12 hours to the highlands but wait till we get there to see if the place is actually defendable.
The point is to get to a remote location, far from technology. The location had the additional benefit of being known by Bond.
I have a hidden tunnel in the house where I could hide the person I am trying to protect, nah lets give the old bat a gun and see how she gets on
Three against many is better odds that trying to take them all on his own. I actually like they gave her more to do in this movie.
I hope they get back to the Qantum guys next time, I want the new version of a Blofeld type character as he gets up the chain of command. -

Really? I thought that movie was a huge turd and nearly undid all the good work of Casino Royale (IMHO of course). Which has been the reason I've left it so long to see this one.

Back to Skyfall, I would have preferred the weapons were still there and that they fought them off until slowly running out of ammo and being forced to use the shotguns in a last resort. I think I could have directed that scene better! (Probably not as I have no idea how to direct anything, but the scene is my head is better than the movie!) -

I'm talking about the organisation of Qantum, which is basically the new SPECTRE (as the Producers don't own Blofeld or SPECTRE at the moment). I was hoping Skyfall would continue the progression of not only Bond as he just started out, and got his in with the financier of part of Qantum, then gets to middle management with the second film, and end the trilogy with a fully formed bond against the new head of this Qantum thing, basically the new Blofeld.

I guess the studio almost going out of business and the delay between films might of changed that. Felt like they were going for the trilogy though - which I thought was part of the issue with the Solace film, it felt like the middle of a story and wasn't big enough. Skyfall certainly upped the over the top villain stakes. -

most recent watch was worst movie of all time - Young Adult with Charlize Theron
I caught the last third of this movie on Sky not so long ago. Should have thrown it back. Obviously I missed all the reasons she was such an obnoxious cow (although I must admit a couple of the 'writer' lines made me laugh.) -

I enjoyed it, she was so unlikeble and that was the point I guess. I kept waiting for her to become likeable but she didn't. She was obnoxious because she was a few kumara short of a hangi. -

what about the fact that Silver's whole plan revolves around someone else doing doing shit in a timely manner? Bond tracks him down via all manner of events that could have gone wrong at any time. Like, oh, i dunno, not surviving a fall off a bridge, or the bullet passing straight through his shoulder.

The fact that Bond makes all teh right connections, gets to the right place, and takes Silver in, is in itself a miracle. Add in the timely "cops" and the very timely train, and he is one master planner.

ok, i blatantly stole this from the excellent cracked.com http://www.cracked.com/article_20298_6-huge-movie-plot-twists-that-caused-even-bigger-plot-holes.html

And i don't care, i thought the movie was awesome. -
and going to where he grew up, Bond assumed the weapons were still there, so I guess he thought with whatever arsenal he thought was still there made defending it a possibility?
-
Yeah I appreciate I left my brain on, but some of it just wanted to be told a little bit better. Like his surviving the fall. I know the bullet that he used later was crucial to the plot but it would have been nice to see another bullet hole in him he got hit hard enough to throw him off a train that should leave a mark.

I also would have thought there would be protocols for the computer thing, if a mate gave me a laptop to fix that had a virus on it. I would not be connecting it to my home network. These guys are pros, there is over confidence then there is this.

As for the car I thought the same that's a nice touch, until I saw that it had an ejector seat and actual machine guns in it. So it was Sean Connerys actual car? Why put that in a reboot? I just don't get it.

I liked the whole quantum thing as well the scene at the Opera was one of the best in my opinion gave a really sinister feeling to the world bond lives in.
