Really? I thought that movie was a huge turd and nearly undid all the good work of Casino Royale (IMHO of course). Which has been the reason I've left it so long to see this one.<br />
<br />
Back to Skyfall, I would have preferred the weapons were still there and that they fought them off until slowly running out of ammo and being forced to use the shotguns in a last resort. I think I could have directed that scene better! (Probably not as I have no idea how to direct anything, but the scene is my head is better than the movie!)<br />

I'm talking about the organisation of Qantum, which is basically the new SPECTRE (as the Producers don't own Blofeld or SPECTRE at the moment). I was hoping Skyfall would continue the progression of not only Bond as he just started out, and got his in with the financier of part of Qantum, then gets to middle management with the second film, and end the trilogy with a fully formed bond against the new head of this Qantum thing, basically the new Blofeld.<br />
<br />
I guess the studio almost going out of business and the delay between films might of changed that. Felt like they were going for the trilogy though - which I thought was part of the issue with the Solace film, it felt like the middle of a story and wasn't big enough. Skyfall certainly upped the over the top villain stakes. -

I caught the last third of this movie on Sky not so long ago. Should have thrown it back. Obviously I missed all the reasons she was such an obnoxious cow (although I must admit a couple of the 'writer' lines made me laugh.) -

I enjoyed it, she was so unlikeble and that was the point I guess. I kept waiting for her to become likeable but she didn't. She was obnoxious because she was a few kumara short of a hangi. -

Skyfall<br />
<br />
I did not like it. I loved the first two reboots but this one made no sense. Some gripes below.<br />
<br />
Word Association Country - England ( Fine accept 2 hours later you reveal you're Scottish)<br />
James Bond can be shot twice fall 100 ft off a bridge into a raging river be unconscious, yet he survives its never explained and he only has one bullet hole not two.<br />
We have a super hackers computer lets plug it directly into our own network. (Cause that's a really good idea)<br />
I am a super hacker here is a map on my computer that you can track me with. (I wanted to get caught, but felt leaving the map on the computer I knew you would take would make this more interesting for all of us)<br />
James Bond owns another James bonds Aston, but its never explained.<br />
The bread crumb trail that leads Silver to Bond is a literal trail of dots on a map.<br />
Lets drive 12 hours to the highlands but wait till we get there to see if the place is actually defendable.<br />
I have a hidden tunnel in the house where I could hide the person I am trying to protect, nah lets give the old bat a gun and see how she gets on.<br />
<br />
what about the fact that Silver's whole plan revolves around someone else doing doing shit in a timely manner? Bond tracks him down via all manner of events that could have gone wrong at any time. Like, oh, i dunno, not surviving a fall off a bridge, or the bullet passing straight through his shoulder.<br />
<br />
The fact that Bond makes all teh right connections, gets to the right place, and takes Silver in, is in itself a miracle. Add in the timely "cops" and the very timely train, and he is one master planner.<br />
<br />
ok, i blatantly stole this from the excellent cracked.com http://www.cracked.com/article_20298_6-huge-movie-plot-twists-that-caused-even-bigger-plot-holes.html<br />
<br />
And i don't care, i thought the movie was awesome. -
and going to where he grew up, Bond assumed the weapons were still there, so I guess he thought with whatever arsenal he thought was still there made defending it a possibility?
-
Yeah I appreciate I left my brain on, but some of it just wanted to be told a little bit better. Like his surviving the fall. I know the bullet that he used later was crucial to the plot but it would have been nice to see another bullet hole in him he got hit hard enough to throw him off a train that should leave a mark.<br />
<br />
I also would have thought there would be protocols for the computer thing, if a mate gave me a laptop to fix that had a virus on it. I would not be connecting it to my home network. These guys are pros, there is over confidence then there is this.<br />
<br />
As for the car I thought the same that's a nice touch, until I saw that it had an ejector seat and actual machine guns in it. So it was Sean Connerys actual car? Why put that in a reboot? I just don't get it.<br />
<br />
Mooshld<br />
<br />
I liked the whole quantum thing as well the scene at the Opera was one of the best in my opinion gave a really sinister feeling to the world bond lives in. -
I've gone on an 80s movie rampage the last couple of weeks largely thanks to Netflix and Amazon Prime: Commando, Running Man, Beverly Hills Cop 1 & 2, 48 Hours, Another 48 Hours. I thought they held up surprisingly well. Word of warning though: we only have a few years until that stuff in Running Man goes down - 2017 for the global collapse and 2019 for the events in the film.

I liked that Opera scene too, mainly because Bond the spy was actually...spying.<br />
<br />
For the computer thing, maybe the thought process is they figured they had enough protections? Was a big oops moment I guess.<br />
<br />
As for the car, I guess as a spy his version of a classic car is a classic from Q branch? -
I went to see Amour the other night and thoroughly enjoyed it. It wont be for everybody - its slow, intense and dry and sub-titled French. It is however a very realistic portrayal of old age intertwined with love. It poses that very modern question concerning euthanasia . Well worth a watch if you are into that kind of movie
-
So I watched Argo.<br />
<br />
Good but best picture worthy? Nah. Gone Baby Gone and The Town, particularly GBG, are better movies IMO than Argo.<br />
<br />
I haven't seen Lincoln yet, not sure that I will either as Im kind of over Speilberg schmaltz.<br />
<br />
Still haven't seen Django but can not wait.<br />
<br />
Life of Pi look interesting but I want to read the book first.<br />
<br />
Play Book was ok but I thought 50/50 was a better human condition movie and that isnt worthy of an Oscar nod.<br />
<br />
Zero Dark Thirty is the one Im hanging out to see though. -
Django - pretty cool, well worth a watch. Leonardo and Christoph Waltz are excellent, Waltz's character was brilliantly written imo...
until his slightly out of character decision to bust a cap in Leo's ass. Seemed more likely he'd keep himself in check to help Django and his wife.

Heres where it fell apart for me<br />

The plan to get a good price on Djanjos wife had no reason to exist! <br />
<br />
Why would Leonardo not accept a large offer say 3 times her normal price for a slave that speaks German from another German, who wants a slave that speaks German? Seems like a reasonable request. Would have saved everyone a lot of bother.
-

End of Watch - documentary style story of two LAPD partners working in the East LA area.Once I got used to the hand held video shots I found the movie very absorbing. The ending was a little predicatable, but did not detract from the impact. HIghly recommended for anyone who liked the Wire.<br />
<br />
Basically the same review I was about to write. At first the cinematography I found overdone until I realised it added to the story. There's nothing new in the plot, but the interaction between Gyllenhaal and Peña is very good. -

The realism for me was over the moment they became super cops. -
They covered that, if he said no you are left with nowhere to go. Also, if you are willing to pay 3x, how about 4, 5 or 6?The Dentist knew Leo's character as well so was anticipating his likely responses.
-
My take<br />
<br />
I guess it is like any situation, if you are willing to pay over the odds for something, there is likely to be a reason.<br />
<br />
Assuming it was just the fact she spoke German is one...
