    The Beast of War

Is that the 80s film The Beast with Jason Patric?

Yep . Have you seen My Way? I can’t find a way to watch it.

Nope, haven't heard of it. Not on Netflix?

Nope, well not on mine . It’s about that Korean guy that was drafted into the Japanese army , captured by the Russians , drafted by them , captured by the Germans , drafted by them and finally taken prisoner by the tanks on D-day . The bits on YouTube look fairly epic.

That's a crazy story - I'll check Netflix tonight, always lots of Asian stuff arriving on Oz Netflix.

I can remember watching that on video in the actual 80s - how does it hold up?

Oh yeah, I've definitely read about him before, would be interesting to see the film version.

I find The Thin Red Line to be utter tosh (Malick can suck a dick), but either way I'll take your word for it πŸ™‚

@jegga watched The Beast of War the other night, pretty decent flick, amusingly though, Russian flick about the Afghan war, made by Americans...

Thinking about this have you seen Cross of Iron? American made film about Germans fighting Russians . It’s a Peckinpah film so as usual as violent as all hell.

What War Movie even comes close? That's a 100% Bona fide classic of a flick.

The first scenes as they leave the landing craft. Epic doesn't seem a big enough word

I make a point of watching it every Anzac Day. It's as close to brilliant as a movie can get in my opinion although I remember my Granddad pointing out a couple of inaccuracies ( woulda been a year or two before he passed away, I watched on VCR with him ). That opening scene, 20 years later it's still nothing short of incredible.

Actually Dunkirk is bloody good too, I need to watch it again. Perhaps it suffers a bit from lack of character development?

Band of Brothers is the perfect companion piece to Ryan. Both shows are expert at making you care for the characters and the combat scenes are white knuckle inducingly realistic

I want to see a movie about this guy, created his own machine gun because the one they gave him wasn’t lethal enough for his tastes.

Yeah I think it's the only violence I've ever seen on screen that's genuinely shocked me. Landing on the beach, first wave just falling riddled with bullets. So fucken ruthless.

Band of Brothers is awesome, I just re-watched and re-read and then read a few other books about them.

Generation Kill is a good modern mini series.
