Something happened with Bond also - interference by a motorbike or something? I saw a mention of that on the Stuff live blog.

Yeah - Cam Meyer's brother ran him off the road and held him down for 30 seconds. 🙂

I think they said the motorbike disturbed some road cones. Would only have needed to slow Hamish up a few seconds to shift him from silver to bronze.

Edit: "Bond had a brief frustrating moment before the halfway stage when he was impeded by an official on a motorbike - who was trying to avoid a team car which had pulled over - and then almost immediately after had to avoided a road cone that had fallen into his path."

      I was that official.

      I have no regrets.

Australian cycling commentators grating like sandpaper - apparently both time trials were over at the 10km mark.

Yeah like winning 467 golds already isn’t enough for the fluffybunnies.

Reality of her lifting with the women is that she was in her own competition anyway - her first lift was 7kg more than the best lift of the next best competitor.

How do you deal with all this if you're a sports administrator?

I reckon you allow transgender athletes and blade-runners etc to compete with the other athletes, but you have extra medals. e.g. If Laurel wins overall then she gets a gold, but so does the first natural born woman. If she comes second she gets a silver, but so does the person who comes third. If she comes fourth she gets nothing - like everyone else.

                      Participation medal. Nice

                      For whom?

I don't think Laurel should be able to compete against biological women. It puts her in a difficult situation because who can she compete against? Medals for Laurel and medals for everyone would be a very PC way to go

I don't get this argument. She can compete against other transgender woman, in their own competition. The games provide categories for men and woman. You don't fall into either start your own games. If there is interest it shouldn't be a problem. If you want to invite the best female athletes in the world go for it. But don't be surprised if the ones born female prefer a more level playing field.

I am all for people identifying how they want to, and if all the woman in our office started using the mens I could not care less, no one is in the shitter to look at anyone elses junk or to assault anyone. We are all just browsing on our phones, trying to forget about the drudgery of work.

These athletes are just being arseholes. They know their body is different from other woman, shit that's their main issue in life. To pretend that it suddenly isn't and its a level playing field is laughable. I had a good chat with someone in the transgender community about this.

                      Her quote.

"You have to be some kind of narcissist to pretend your body is the same as everyone elses, when you've spent your whole life trying to escape it. "

@mooshld agree with all of that, but there are hardly any transgender people around. They are an anomoly at best. In the US for example they make up just 0.3% of the population - though you wouldn't know it given how much media they get. So any "transgender only" events are not viable.

The harsh reality is they just can't compete in elite sports unless they compete as their gender at birth. This obviously only impacts male -> female transgender, as you're never going to get female -> male transgender competing in mens sports for obvious reasons.

All this bullshit about "inclusivity" is being taken way too far, and sporting bodies need to draw a bloody line in the sand. They've got very solid science backing them up on this, but they're just weak as piss fearing a backlash from the radical lefties.

If .3% is true that means there is over a million people in the USA alone. There are countries smaller then that and they manage to have their own sporting leagues. Yeah you're not going to get superbowl coverage or cash when you start out. But tough shit. Life is not fair, and we all have to start somewhere.

Re the transgender athelete thing, I had the pest control guy round today who also happened to be a top swimmer but unfortunately was in the same events as Thorpe, Hackett and Perkins (unlucky fucker). He was having quite the rant about the TJ athletes and how he couldn't understand why they would even want to compete on those terms. Particular mention was made of that AFL colossus who still has a cock and will likely end up crippling someone.

The fact that an honest and logical conversation cannot be had about this due to fear of being labelled some kind of bigot is so utterly ridiculous.

                                  Surely that must be 0.03%?

Re the transgender athelete thing, I had the pest control guy round today who also happened to be a top swimmer but unfortunately was in the same events as Thorpe, Hackett and Perkins (unlucky fucker). He was having quite the rant about the TJ athletes and how he couldn't understand why they would even want to compete on those terms. Particular mention was made of that AFL colossus who still has a cock and will likely end up crippling someone.

The fact that an honest and logical conversation cannot be had about this due to fear of being labelled some kind of bigot is so utterly ridiculous.

Maybe on the internet, but in real life most people seem totally capable of doing this.

Julia Ratcliffe just won GOLD in the women's hammer. Aussies silver and bronze. Awesome!

150 medals up for grabs in the pool. That's where you pour funding to pad your medal tally.

                                          Fucking Australia.
