The Silver Ferns are a giant clusterfuck and have been since Southby took over as coach. The defence do some great things, then our midcourt fuck it up, or if it makes it to the circle, useless shooters like Mes or Selby-Rickitt don't convert. They are not international standard. If you are regularly shooting at less than 85% +, you have no business playing this level.

I actually hope Uganda pull it off against Scotland. Would take a miracle in terms of the goal differential they need (I think it's like 37 goals) but the Silver Ferns don't deserve to make the semis.

If it's percentage (rather than goal diff) it's not just score x number of goals more. Gets messed up for every goal the opposition score. It's a moving target.

(Tried to work it out her daughter's finals last year ... messed too much with my mind ... just wait till the end and see what falls out ...)

@canefan pretty sure there was a similar article written (regurg) at the summer Olympics too.

they were saying on the radio this morning SF need to lose by 10+ and Uganda win by 10+ for SF to miss out I think it was.

Even if we get through it will only delay the inevitable. Throughout my life we have spent the majority of the time playing second fiddle to straya. But this is a fresh hell right now, we are minnow bait

Just crunching some quick numbers based on what the opposition may score:

Uganda would have to win v Scotland (who are averaging 39.5 points per game):
          45-10
          51-15
          58-20
          64-25
          70-30
          76-35
          82-40

Malawi v Wales would require scores of:
          91-10
          97-15
          103-20
          110-25
          116-30
          122-35
          128-40

As a comparison Uganda lost to England by 6 goals. NZ beat Uganda by 13.

            Here is the table.

Uganda need to do a bit better than that!

JUST BOUNCE THE FUCKEN BALL. YOU KNOW YOU WANT TO.

Something happened with Bond also - interference by a motorbike or something? I saw a mention of that on the Stuff live blog.

Yeah - Cam Meyer's brother ran him off the road and held him down for 30 seconds. 🙂

I think they said the motorbike disturbed some road cones. Would only have needed to slow Hamish up a few seconds to shift him from silver to bronze.

Edit: "Bond had a brief frustrating moment before the halfway stage when he was impeded by an official on a motorbike - who was trying to avoid a team car which had pulled over - and then almost immediately after had to avoided a road cone that had fallen into his path."

yeh i saw it.. not sure if it cost him 2 secs which was the gap to silver.. was on a downhill section. caught slow rider in front so their team car pulled over, motorbike got in the way. I don't think he had to brake but one arm came off the bars to wave at them and tell them where to go...

but defo a 'distruption'.. could easily have been 2 secs with the break in routine. that shit should not happen on a TT course.

stitch up!! this whole games is russian-esque!! for shame Australia, for shame.

I guess some part of me can understand the burning need to restore some national pride. I mean, on international television last night, its was proven the Prime Minister doesn't know the words to The Voice. That's fucking disgraceful.

I loved the shot of the three medallists sitting on those stupid deck chairs. The Aussie and the Pom were chatting away, Bond looked like someone had kicked his cat. That's a champion used to winning right there

Now there are people mad at Jenny-May (can't remember her married name) for asking Katrina Grant about pride in the black dress and making her cry.

I imagine it must be really, really hard for ex-Silver Ferns watching this rabble. Especially someone like Laura Langman who owned the midcourt. And Irene, watching Mes shoot. (Or not shoot.)

So Aussie by 20+ in the SF?

                                @Mokey
I don't doubt that the players aren't trying their best but (1) they aren't good enough at present and (2) the coach is woefully out of her depth and can't get the best out of the players.

It was an inane question by Clarkson. She could have asked a similar question without questioning their pride.

It's the number one women's sport in NZ. It's like the ABs getting beaten by Namibia. She should ask where the hell the pride has gone

@mokey Jenny-May didn't word it too brutally, but it's a bit rugged for one of their SF compadres to suggest they're not trying hard especially in the wake of what must have been a devastating loss.

                                    I'm sure they're trying hard - they are...as you point out above...just a clusterfuck.

The A No. 1 thing they've got to do is have a second shooter taking and making her shots - even if she's not making them she's got to keep taking them. But, she's got to make them!

No. 2 - if we play Jamaica - get Laurel Hubbard into the defensive circle. Who says that tall Jamaican shooter can't be guarded! 🙂

Yeah that was a pretty weak question, and perfectly reasonable. My much 'fluffier' than me wife agrees. You're a pro athlete, representing your country, and your team has been playing poorly, lacking effort. No one bats an eyelid when that sort of question is asked to Tana!

But the same as those cheating Ozzie cricketers, have a good cry and everyone forgives you - pathetic.

Do you seriously think lack of effort is their problem?

sometimes it ends up being trying too hard...

I have no doubts about thier pride in themselves, thier ability and thier effort, but the end result is what is lacking, lack of cohesion, direction, game plan or whatever, alot wrong with alot of what they are doing at present...doesnt mean they dont have pride or arent trying.
