WTF is going with this coverage. There's live athletics going on and I just watched a "segment" of journalists having a fucking race or something earlier in the day, followed by ads.

This is honestly close to unwatchable.

We’ve all but given up. Mainly tracking the results online...

I gave it a go last night for the first time, I fancied settling down in front of the athletics for a few hours. Hopeless, no feel for sport at all. Ad breaks too often and too long, pointless cuts to studio etc etc. Gave up and went to bed. Luckily I don't care about the Comm Games which are a pointless anachronism where some events are very competitive (netball, sevens) and most aren't and it isn't the main focus of a lot of the top athletes who turn up - world class athletes are focused on the Diamond League (late NH summer) rather than this.

"The Gold Coast is currently hosting the Commonwealth Games, which only exists to give white people who are too shit for the Olympics the chance to win medals, making it the Caucasian Special Olympics"

That page is always the highlight of my Facebook experience.
Reading the comments from those offended is the icing on the cake

Thank you so much for introducing me to this!

It's NZ's own Prost vs Senna.

    Embrace and enjoy it!

Unlike road racing there is no etiquette in MTB to wait for mechanicals. This is just a working out of how to balance being a 'team' in these type of events as opposed to being solely individual at others.
Last time they worked together to create a lead then Cooper took off with giving Gaze notice that he was about to. Nothing wrong in that either.
They just need to learn to communicate better during a race and set some ground rules beforehand.

0-0 in the women's hockey after the first quarter (Eng-NZ)
King and Coll won the first set of the squash against India 11-10. Very, very tight in the second.

England had the better of the first period. We need more penalty corners and they need less!

King and Coll win 11-10, 11-10 against the Indian pair. They are through to the semis.

Finally should have had a penalty corner but the fucking TMO is blind! 🙂

Had the better of that third quarter though! Dominating the midfield and territory.

I've got no sound. Why was it called a no goal when it bounced off the English foot and into the goal? (I don't know the hockey rules)

@toddy We had to get a touch on it in the circle. Shoulda been a penalty corner though.

    Penalty shootout!

A bit unfortunate, since we dominated that second half, but didn't create enough on attack.

    Hope they've been practicing!!!

Was O'Hanlon subbed on for the penalty shootout?

@bovidae Yep - and a good thing too.

The English girls looked a lot more organized in their attempts and she did very well (with a bit of luck) to stop them.

Actually Harrison's effort, which scored, was good and Mickelson's chip was Ronaldo-esque!

I thought we were done for when it got to penalty shootout. But the sub goalie did a superb job.

Maybe one for the Stuff thread...

    https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/commonwealth-games/103069172/black-sticks-into-womens-hockey-final-at-commonwealth-games

New Zealand have never won a Commonwealth Games hockey gold medal. Over the past five Games, the Black Sticks women's side has collected one silver (at Delhi in 2010) and two silver after making the medal round each time.

I changed the channel to see them walking around the field and O'Hanlon looked a lot taller than Rutherford, so a bigger body in goal.

Also more athletic apparently. Saw an interview with her and she said it was preplanned, she considered it a speciality and did extra training and scouting work on opposition players. Given how those shoot outs went seems like there's a genuine niche for a specialist. Very different to open field play.
