The Godfather 1 & 2 are still absolute classics and still stand up now. The original is 46yo.
The 70’s are an absolute fucken golden age of cinema, can extend it into the first year or 2 of the 80’s
Think of movies that changed the cinema landscape for ever, most came in that periodI do hear that but a lot of 'classics' either don't age particularly well or weren't that good to start with. Deer Hunter and Deliverance being two obvious examples.
Yup films like Jaws, Star Wars, Godfather 1 and 2, The Exorcist, Empire Strikes Back, Alien, Clockwork Orange, Halloween etc have aged terribly
I said a lot...Not every single one.
I am partial to all of those except the Exorcist.
Too
scary..boring -
Since 9/11, Afghanistan, and Iraq we've had no good films about them (except Zero Dark Thirty, which was very good but was extremely misleading propaganda), and yet there have been two exceptionally good long films/miniseries about cold war terrorism in Europe in that time.
Everyone should watch Carlos and The Best of Youth. Both are fucking great.

Early films that were ground breaking in their use of CGI/ effects date terribly, but should be seen for what they were at the time. The element of Alien that stands the test of time is the suspense. It was masterful.
I don't see how Godfather has dated.

Has anyone watched Citizen Kane recently? It's been on my 'really should watch' list for a very long time. Not sure if B&W would hold my attention enough.
Yeah you should, you should also watch Casablanca if you haven't already. I think after a while you'll forget the B&W anyway.

Unlike some others here and being a bit of a SciFi buff, I actually quite liked Annihilation and I really enjoyed a new SciFi movie called Revolt. The chick in this, Bérénice Marlohe, is very hot, amazing eyes.
A good SciFi/War type of movie 3 outta 5 for this one.I watched this last night. An OK movie, but I can understand the low ratings and criticism.

@antipodean I think he was being sarcastic

Watched Game Over, Man on Netflix. Good stupid movie if you want a couple of laughs. Massive negative was plenty of cock and balls and hairy ass but not even a single titty. That's not how this is meant to work....

Spinning Man is worth a watch

These reviews are getting shorter and shorter.
The Dark Tower.
It was on, i had nothing else to do, so...
Jesus, miss the mark much? And I'm not talking in the "way to ignore the books guys" kinda way, but in a "basic movie making" way. The main thing is you want to save the universe. Shouldn't that, you know, play a part in the actual story? Seriously, because they paid so little attention to what should have been a reasonably significant detail, the level of "peril" was basically zero. What happens if we fail? fuck knows, but it sounds important, so lets go.
Main bad guy can kill a motherfucker just by telling him to stop breathing. He can catch bullets. He can burn dudes. How is he not pretty much in charge of anything already? Especially given the basic life on "midworld" And who, or what the fuck were them rat things? Why did they need to be rats in masks? The fuck?
The Gunslinger? He's basically a fucking superhero when he needs to be. But at other times? And what a waste of the whole coming to New York thing. How did the 2nd bullet catch up to the first one?
Seriously, this movie is shit. Avoid.
1 very specific, necessary detail containing dream vision out of 5 look i'm a fucking psychic superhero all of a suddens.

Double Impact. Classic JCVD. Cracking film with a pretty damn good sex scene as well.

Saw a bunch of films on the plane
Justice League. Quite good action, Gal is hawt, some different characters which was good. Ben's attempts at humour were OK but Cavill's part and the dialogue in general are not as good as the marvel films. 3.5 resurrected Supermen out of 5 Wonder woman's lassos
The world's greatest showman. I enjoyed the film, had a Moulin Rouge type feel to it, good story (however it was embellished from the real thing). 4.5 bearded ladies out of 5 top hats
Jumanji. A bit of light fun, I liked the video game avatar spin on the old version. The kickass girl was hawt, Jack Black was hilarious and Kevin Hart wasn't too irritating. 4 donated ataris out of 5 jaguar eyes
The Wonder. Nicely written zero blood count feel good film. I liked the way they filled out each character's story away from their connection to Auggie, and the path to success of Auggie was just bumpy enough to make the ride satisfying with all parties pretty happy in the end. 4 space helmets out of 5 camera obscuras

Watched Jumanji (v2) last night. Pleased I did, good plot and well acted from a well suited cast.
Even managed to convince the wife to watch it by reference to the cast. Otherwise she wouldn't have bothered.

@tim CK Stead was one of my lecturers when Sleeping Dogs came out. Given its profile at the time and the fact it effectively resuscitated the NZ film industry it was quite cool to chat about it with the author of the source material. Not sure if I've ever seen it a second time
