THE IMPOSTER (2012)
Unfuckingbelievable documentary, but apparently true story about a French sociopathic con-artist who deserves many good hard kicks to the testicles, and a desperate American family willing to believe anything in the face of trauma. Made by the same producer as the brilliant "Man on Wire." There are a few red-herrings and dramatic recreations that are puzzling, but I couldn't pull my eyes away. 9/10. -

I loved that movie too. There is another movie out there that is a dramatization of this same story. Apparently it is awful. -

Saw Trance, quite an odd film, the bonus of Rosario Dawson naked. made me enjoy it more than I probably would have ordinarily .

Did I mention Rosario Dawson is naked in it?
She's never really floated my boat, but she did look lovely naked in Alexander, although it wasn't enough to redeem that movie. -

Sheesh, I said she looked lovely .... <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/rugby/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' /> -
Oblivion: Tom's latest action outing. Fantastic to look at it but despite a plot that promises lots of twists, you see everything coming a mile off.

And it's fun to check off all the various themes and elements from other movies. I got the following just for starters ....

Independence Day
The Matrix
Planet of the Apes
Moon

But visually it's stunning and I didn't mind making the effort to see Tom doing his puzzled face, then his action face, then his sad face and then back to his action face. -
I always thought Rich Hall nailed Tom Cruise' method
Watched The Hobbit last night.

Enjoyed it, as others have said, Gollum was brilliant. Jeez special effects these days are great arent they!

Was odd though, when I saw there was 20 mins to go I was thinking man they have a lot to cram into 20 mins before I remembered it wasnt going to finish...
Been a fair old while since I read the book, but I seem to recall something about the scene with Bilbo and the trolls in the book being very funny, but on viewing I wonder if I was wrong?

Might need to re-read the book to see.
-
Got my Criterion dvd of "Pandora's Box" last week (saw it cheap on eBay, brand new). I first saw it a couple decades ago, then late last year, and I liked it even better. One of the most astounding films I've ever seen. The film comes on the dvd with a choice of four separate soundtracks (the original has been lost). I've just watched the one, and will take my time luxuriating in the other three. If anyone tells you that Louise Brooks isn't the most alluring, seductive, beautiful woman ever seen on film, they are lying. Still images do not do her justice, he says wiping the drool off his lips. She needs to be seen on motion film.

OK, I was bored. I'd finished some work and didn't want to start anything new right away. So there I was, on the sofa, flicking through the channels and it was just starting, starring Danny Glover and Vinnie Jones ....

A re-imagining of Moby Dick, but with dragons. Captain Ahab, the mysterious, scarred owner of a land-ship called the Pequod travels round a mystical realm searching for the Great White Dragon. I mean how bad could it be?

It was truly desperate. How it ever got made is anyone's guess. Imagine a great big wooden 'boat' trundling round snowy Utah, while the cast throw harpoons at really bad CGI. It wasn't even bad enough to be funny. Do not watch this film. -
Olympus Has Fallen: basically Die Hard in the White House with Gerard Butler instead of Bruce Wills.

I may have liked this movie when I was 13 back in the 80s. It was ok now but had some key annoying as f*@k scenes.
The secret service and other guards at the White House were terrible. They basically all got hammered, most only had hand guns and they never used cover. The movie would have been way better if the battle for the White House was actually a battle instead of the Koreans just hammering everyone. It then turned Butler into superman.
Definitely wait for dvd on this one.

Broken City: Marky Mark is a cop who looses his job for shooting a suspect, Crowe is the mayor who keeps him from being prosecuted for the killing. A number of years later Crowe gets Marky Mark (now a PI) to tail his wife (Catherine Zeta Jones) for evidence of an affair. All is not what it seems.

Decent enough thriller, predictable as fudge, has Coach Taylor in it so that's always a bonus, and the three leads are watcheable. -

Yeah first thing I asked when it opened to awesome scenes:
If mankind was so badly buttfucked, how the fuck did they make those enormous fucking water sucking things?
-

Can rent for $7 on Google movies - worth it? I am a 2000AD fan
I wasn't an avid reader of the comics, but it seemed like a pretty faithful reproduction. Its a boy film so not for a couple's night in. I think you'll love it (got a 78% from rotten tomatoes) -
Saw Jack Reacher, was decent enough, if not a bit long for what it was, or maybe it was trying to be a bit more than what it was...
