@stargazer when Brazier gets to about 40m to go you see her looking round for support, sees there isnt any and knows she has to go all the way!

Accelerates away like a good Cantab. 🙂

Where's my spare fuel can! 🙂

We all love to see someone back themselves and under those circumstances and in the context of the match, it really was an awesome effort.

Well done to both the Kiwi teams today - watched a bit of the ladies in action via mobile stream, and you could tell from the get-go that the Kiwis wanted it more. Aussies lost their shit a little despite coming back into it. That missed conversion was, for this level of footy, a sitter. And the kick out at the end? Wow. Brain snap. Fatigue. Whatever.

I think the conversion and kick out were linked. Such was the placement of the equalizing try, most just assumed the kick would go over I reckon. The punter just didn't reset her reality check 🙃

That was an epic ladies final. I honestly thought we had bottled it when the Aussies scored their second try, but then their kicker munted it. And the kick out, that was a brain fart and a half. Those poor girls looked dead on their feet, and I was wondering how the hell anyone was going to score, then it got to Brazier. Fuck me, what a run. She just kept going, and When she did that look around, that was another point I thought ah, fuck it we've bottled it again because she has no support, and there are like three Aussies around her. But she kept going and going, and holy shit, she scored. I did laugh at the end when Portia picked her up like a rag doll to hug her.

The men's final was a wee bit stink after all that drama. Fiji looked very un-Fiji like, I think they just ran out of gas, then it started getting niggly. Some interesting ref calls both ways didn't help.

But two finals, two golds. Can't ask for any more than that. Superb effort.

Kelly Brazier was a star at the WC last year and she's done it again in the 7s. Kudos to the Aussie number 4 who chased hard the whole way after initially being fended by Brazier but alas all in vain.

Gee Fiji were utter shit. Good for us for them to bring that in the gold medal game.

Not a big fan of 7s, particularly without the top players, but I enjoyed that.

    What top players were missing?

    You're kidding right?

What? I can't think of the top players missing, that's not far off our strongest squad.

Ahem. How about the Super roster? The major European club comps. That's what I meant by top players. I totally recognise they are different games that require different skill sets, but unfortunately the best rugby players on the planet are not there.

There's a super roster of Sevens players? Major European club comp for Sevens? Gee I had no idea they were hogging all those players. That's a shame for the commonwealth games.

You know what I'm talking about. Don't be an idiot.

Oh so you're talking about good XVs players when discussing Sevens players. Makes perfect sense. Yes must be me being an idiot huh...

Cmon Bones, don't be a tool. I was merely saying that it's unfortunate that the best rugby players on the planet aren't there. I acknowledge this isn't possible these days and that the games are very different. You think all the same players would be there if the 15s players had the same training and build up?

How about you quit with the usual name calling just because you can't understand something simple? Seems to be a very common occurrence.

The best Sevens players ARE there. Tell me the better Sevens players that are missing.

When did I say the best available Sevens players aren't there? I didn't and you know it. I've been quite clear about what I've meant but you've insisted on completely avoiding that. Seems a very common occurrence...

You said the best rugby players aren't there. They are.

    ?

No they're not. Are you saying these guys are better rugby players than all their 15s counterparts now?

Definitely. Their 15s counterparts aren't even playing Sevens. Is it a shame for you when you watch the 100m final and the best runners are missing because they don't run the 100m?

Or the guys who win the US softball champs, because the best guys are playing baseball. 🙂

I was just wondering how much better table tennis would be if it had Rafa et al. They're the real tennis players! 😊

Yes, you often see that crossover. With shot putting and javelin too.

I mean in rugby you only have the Ioane bros, Messam, Savea, BFA etc etc. It's a great comparison.

No problem. It really was a brilliant analogy and totally logical. I mean an even better one would be pole vault and high jump.

Kelly Brazier was a star at the WC last year and she's done it again in the 7s. Kudos to the Aussie number 4 who chased hard the whole way after initially being fended by Brazier but alas all in vain.

It was a great bit of sporting drama. A lone kiwi being chased by a couple of despairing Aussies, everyone in the frame absolutely fucked, knowing it was the moment that won or lost the game. And so they gave it their all. That Aussie girl was devastated, as you would be. It wasn't a game with a high amount of skill, but the guts on display was of peak standard.

The mens final was weird. Fiji never fronted mentally, or maybe the NZ start rattled them. And they just dropped their bundle. That yellow should have been a red though, it was a filthy act. Even in AFL, where you can bump a guy off the ball, that would have got him a couple of weeks. I thought we might have blown it with two awful bits of play on the stroke of halftime, dropping the ball over the line, and then just running the ball in to touch. But Fiji didn't have it in them to make a comeback. The last few minutes was pure professionalism, very smart sevens.
