@bovidae the same way the Breakers through the glory years had a bench as good as most teams starting 5, accounting.

We had an awesome team then. I'm not sure we got it by opening the wallet though. Melbourne are loaded with imports, Prather is 6th man!

pffft hahaha okay man, you keep telling yourself that.

I'm sure we were spending as much or more than anyone. But teams are spending even more now. Is there a salary cap? I recall there being a point system

@canefan pretty sure there is both in place. But don't think it's strictly enforced. The new owner i am pretty sure wants as much talent on display as possible.

    MOTHERFUCKER!!!

You fucking... why would you... i can't even... SHIT!!

Fuck me dead. No one, i mean no one, loses to 1 second catch-and-shoots like the Taipans. If that's the play, you can almost fucking guarantee the other team will get it, no matter how bullshit the shot.

I mean, fucking look at that play. They do everything right, in the Taipans' view, the right player gets the ball, he has to turn and release, with 2 guys in his face, and he loops a bucket. Fucking. Bullshit.

Cap cheating fuckheads. I hope your new owners burn you to the ground now.

Bullets spending up. They've signed Vukona from the Breakers and Gliddon from us.

Vukona is gone? That is not a good sign for the Breakers

I don't see this as a big loss on the court now. No doubt that Vukona is the heart and soul of the team, and a warrior, but he isn't productive enough to be a starter anymore - and that was where the difference of opinion was. He wanted to start, they wanted to use him off the bench.

Tai Wesley would be a great addition again to play the PF spot.

Tai is great. Was a favourite of mine when he was a breaker. By the way, where us Cedric Jackson these days?

He plays for the Yakima SunKings in the North American Premier Basketball league according to Wiki. He has bounced around a few leagues after leaving the Breakers.

On TV3 tonight they were saying that the Braswell connection could mean both Wesley and Webster return.

The Breakers have signed former Cairns Taipans point guard Jarrad Weeks to a 2-year deal. The Taipans are really being gutted.

    @mariner4life Thoughts on Weeks?

Got faaaar too many minutes at the end of the season for my liking. Has great speed for late in quarters, and can hit a long three, but for a good side he's got to be your 4th guard, and getting 8-10 minutes a game. He is a pretty tenacious defender though, and his foot speed makes him hard to get around.

Reading the Stuff article, Ili will be the starting PG with Weeks providing cover from the bench. That means Sosa won't be back. They are looking for an import at SG.

Weeks averaged 8 points, 2 assists and 2 rebounds in 19 minutes a game according to the same article.

questions should be asked of the back office. How is we ended up on everyone being off contract at the same time? Including the coach?

I saw an article in the local rag blaming it on sacking the coach meaning we lost Gliddon and McCarron. That's bullshit IMO. If you decide the team needs a new playing direction, you don't change your mind based on the possibility of players leaving. But having your whole roster off contract at the end of the same season is madness.

It's not that i wanted to keep them all, but having 3 players on your roster is hardly ideal (Loughton got an extension at the end of last week). Actually i think we signed a guard from Perth on the weekend. I have horrible visions of watching Damon Heuir starting every game (who is worse than Weeks).

More changes at the Breakers. Rob Loe has signed for the Taipans and management is allowing Alex Pledger to test the market.

So an all new front line for the new season. They do need more scoring from the 4 and 5 spots.

Maybe it's time for a change, maybe not. But stability is out the window and I can't see how we will be competitive with a brand new team, unless that team is filled with mostly excellent players from the NBA or the D league

There seems to be a lot of player movement this offseason. Every team not called Melbourne is making changes. The Kings have signed Bogut.

Looking at the Breakers roster they have:

    PG: Ili, Weeks
    SG:
    SF: Abercrombie
    PF: Delany
    😄 Pledger

SG will either be a US import (Newbill?) or maybe Webster. Add in Ngatai and Raukawa for depth at guard.
PF likely to be Wesley. Fotu as the 3rd option.
A centre from the US. I doubt they would be letting Loe and Pledger go without a very good plan B option.

@bovidae A big reason the Breakers found success in recent years (apart from winning titles) was the well known Kiwi names on the roster who had either had success overseas or were stalwarts in the NZ NBL.

I thought the 'you need Australians' was only a league thing.
