It depends on who you believe from the press reports but I tend to think there has been fault on both sides in the Fale vs ARL fight.

We'll have to wait for the details on the sale.

At least the ARL will consider local league interests. It doesn't rule out mismanagement, look at the NZRL!! I hope they sit in the background and let Jim Doyle do his thing

Great news but I hope they don't rush him back too soon, when he isn't as effective and risking a longer layoff

He's named in the starting 13 but I doubt Luke is playing this week when they face the Wests Warriors. Expect Lino to start at hooker with Lawton on the bench covering hooker and the backline.

Lawton is the former Gold Coast Titan who transfered to the club when Ata Hingano left for Canberra. He's played a dozen or so NRL games.

He's also an instagram/underwear model in his spare time. Here's a photo you might enjoy:

In other news, besides Mrs Lawton's magumbos, the Warriors have been sold.

                      Vodafone Warriors announce ownership change

Vodafone Warriors executive chairman Jim Doyle confirmed today that after working with various interested parties, both within New Zealand and internationally, over the last few months the club has been sold to Carlaw Heritage Trust, and Autex Industries Limited.

The sale sees the Vodafone Warriors become formally integrated into New Zealand’s rugby league landscape.

Founded in 1909 and supported by the assets of Carlaw Heritage Trust, Auckland Rugby League is the governing body and administrator of the game of rugby league across the Auckland region.

It is partnering in the acquisition with Autex, a widely respected New Zealand business with a long history of supporting rugby league.

Autex were a pioneering sponsor of New Zealand’s national rugby league team in the late 1970s and 1980s and have continued to be enthusiastic supporters of rugby league.

Autex have more recently been a jersey sponsor of the Kiwis and are currently the naming sponsor of ‘Autex House’, a residential Auckland property providing home-away-from-home accommodation and life skills to some of the Vodafone Warriors’ most promising young players.

Eric Watson acknowledged the support the club has enjoyed throughout his association and expressed the belief that the ownership change is in the best interests of the club.

“After 17 years I am proud to have played a part in the development of rugby league in New Zealand,” he said.

“The Vodafone Warriors have significant engagement within our sporting, business and social communities.

“The decision to sell was not an easy one and although I will always be a passionate supporter of the club, I believe the time is right to hand the club over to a new owner. “It is particularly pleasing to see the club formally become part of rugby league’s local governing body and administrator. The new owner is certainly passionate about the game and, with the addition of the club, it is now genuinely placed to support and grow rugby league from its grassroots through to what is the pinnacle of the sport’s international club competition.

“I wish the new owners all the best. I also thank and acknowledge Jim and the board for their efforts over recent seasons which is certainly paying dividends as this season unfolds.

“Jim’s commitment and leadership brought operational and financial stability to the club, in particular with preserving as its home Mount Smart Stadium and being actively involved in driving the financial benefits to the club of the NRL’s new club funding model,” said Watson.

The change of ownership brings with it a change of board members with Jim Doyle and all fellow directors other than chief executive Cameron George stepping down and the new owner appointing new directors.

@sneakdefreak happy that the Yanks didn't get the club but disappointing that Jim Doyle is moving on from the Warriors. Would have been great if they had been able to keep him on.

Is he definitely moving on? Maybe the new owners will reappoint him?

I have never heard of Autex before.

The new owners of the Warriors are wasting no time in making their presence felt, announcing the imminent culling of the club's U-20 team.

Just a day after declaring they'd be making no "radical changes" following the formal acceptance of their ownership bid, Auckland Rugby League Chairman Cameron McGregor told Newshub there are plans to withdraw the side from the Jersey Flegg Cup, formerly known as the NYC Cup.

McGregor said the ARL's long-term plan to retain local talent is to ensure that it's bred through Auckland's Fox Memorial competition, rather than the fledgling age-group league based out of Australia.

That's about as smart as Netball NZ withdrawing from the ANZ Cup

@bovidae Why not do both? All Warriors prospects play Fox Memorial and the Warriors can rotate their roster in the Jersey Flegg every week to see how certain players match up against other teams.

This move is obviously designed to strengthen the Auckland comp, not necessarily improve the depth of players in NZ.

If you were a young player from Chch having to move to Auckland or Sydney is not too different. In the end, it will come down to money and providing the best opportunity to develop as a player.

Is he definitely moving on? Maybe the new owners will reappoint him?

I remember all of those players well, aside from Hudson - never heard of him. So clearly Autex didn't achieve the long term brand awareness in the 80s from thier sponsorship of league.
