@mn5 I like Neeson, haven't watched Travolta in years due to his movie choices not him, I'd watch either over Butler any day.

Also, since I'm clearly on a disagreeing mode with you at the moment 🙂 I thought Shannon was meh in The Shape of Water - I'm over him playing that type of character.

But hang on, you watch Neeson?

The Commuter is Taken without his daughter being kidnapped. Utter crapola. Naturally he has 'skills'....yawn

Which I find a real shame cos he has been awesome in the past.

I haven't seen Commuter. But I'm not sure what the problem is, you're basically explaining it to me as Taken with all the good stuff (skills) and without the annoying stuff (annoying adult daughter who acts like a 5 year old).

@nepia Commuter is nowhere near as good as Taken, which was awesome, I reckon it sits between Taken 2 and Taken 3, both of which sit well, WELL below the original.

    The Commuter

    Correspondence to Mark Kermode:
quote from the film "is this seat taken"
answer should be "no, but this movie is trying to be"

It was shit. I bailed on it halfway through.

one disconnected carriage with people inside out of five disconnected plots with people inside.

Old school last night - Cool Hand Luke.

Paul Newman is always good to watch but apart from George Kennedy I had forgotten some of the other actors that appeared in the movie. Namely Dennis Hopper, Harry Dean Stanton, Trapper John and old man Walton.

And of course, Strother Martin with his infamous speech (later used by Guns 'n' Roses in Civil War).

    4 eggs out of 50...I mean 5

I should also mention thats in one of those movies where a small part by a famous actor steals the whole movie. Salma Hayek this time, who is just plain awesome as Samuel L's wife.

Think Tom Cruise in Tropic Thunder, Paul Rudd in forgetting sarah marshall ...

Paul Rudd is a talentless, unfunny wankstain with the kind of head that Zinzan Brooke would say 'fuck, that fluffybunny had a big head'

I don't think I've come across anyone with this kind of distain for Rudd - will check out his head in Antman and the Wasp to compare with Zinny's (I fear you've gone a bridge too far, only Steven Bates rivals Zinny's noggin).

The head comment is an exaggeration. The rest is not.

    Avengers: Infinity War

    Wow. Fuck. Wow.

6 Infinity Stones out of 6.

I liked it, thought they managed the gigantic cast pretty well and kept up the humour of the two most recent Marvel movies (Thor and Black Panther).

I enjoyed this film too. They tried to cover a huge amount of ground, with a large cast, multiple story lines but it flowed smoothly with a few laughs and plenty of action along the way. The end, and the post credits teaser set things up for the next installment, in 2019 I guess. 4.5 misfiring hulksters out of 5 disintegrating superheroes

    Operation Odessa

Movie length doco about 3 mafia types (a Russian, a Miami car sales man and a Cuban) in the 90s as they try to negotiate and buy a Russian sub for the Cali cartel after the collapse of the USSR.

THe Cuban guy in particular was fucking awesome fucking man.

These guys are larger than life characters and despite what they do, are likable and oddly enough, stereotypical.

4 Russian subs out of 5 ton of cocaine

So we can be sure Millenials will take to social media to express their outrage?

Basic Instinct, an exceptionally good film and the best of the 90s erotic thrillers, has a Metacritic rating of 41.

    Pearls before swine.

I remember even pre internet this movies reputation preceded it. A guy at school went before I did, a bunch of us asked how it was and all he mentioned was the predictable plot.

Not one mention of the infamous growler scene.

The fact this bloke came out a few years later was absolutely no surprise at all.
