Kaitaia & Waipu are probably my fave courses (love links courses)<br />
<br />
Kaitaia is right on 90 Mile beach, great test of golf, and as with most links courses, subject to some wild variances in the elements! A 90m par 3 into the teeth of the wind, hitting a 3 iron, standing in the clubrooms watching the fork lightning on the Ta$man and rain going sideways, and then clearing half an hour later to perfect conditions! Waipu is just south of WHangarei and I have played that course in some wild conditions as well.<br />
<br />
St Andrews in Hamilton is also a pretty good course and was set up bloody tough with narrow fairways, 3 inch lush rough and quick greens, although my golfing memories are not good ones (played the NZ Amateur there and despite having 6 birdies in a 12 hole stretch I still managed to shoot 88) has some fantastic holes.

Haven't played Jacks Point but heard alot of good things. On the to do list for sure.<br />
<br />
We have christmas down in rangiora again this year by the looks so will be taking the clubs to try a few courses down there.<br />
<br />

<br />
Are you serious? That is where I go for Christmas (My folks farm is down there) I must play Rangiora about 4-5 times each visit. We must catch up for a round next time.<br />
<br />
While you are playing there, go play Waimakariri Golf Course! It has some fabulous holes. Cheep but really good knick.

Yeah serious mate. The wifes parents live down there. Not quite rangiora but more back towards Ohoka/Manderville area. Tend go down every year or so and also alternate xmas' between there and Auckland.<br />
<br />
Usually I just fish the small rivers (kaiapoi / ashley etc) while I'm there but keen to golf it next time. Ever played Kaiapoi?

Went and tried a few irons at lunch time. Kinda split between the Cleveland CG16s and the Callaway RAZR X Blacks. Both irons felt sweet and are much longer then my current Powerbuilt irons. Both about the same price point too and neither had a 3iron so means I need to get a 3 hybrid at some point too (currently only have the 2 hybrid).

I got the Ping i20's last year and they have been great. Awesomely balanced.<br />
<br />
Realy like the look of the new Callaway driver. I like Callaway gear even though I've never really owned any. I'd go Callaway over Cleaveland. I had Cleveland woods and they were OK, but I was a learner so they may have been good and me just hopeless

Will look in to those Pings mate and try them this weekend if possible.<br />
<br />
I've got a a Callaway driver, not the latest model but the 2012 Razr Fit with the pro-launch stiff shaft and its an awesome club. Picked it up late last year for a good price but seems even cheaper now. Really love cracking it off the tee and every game I play with it seems to get better and better.

mmmm new gear. I'm still hitting my starter Maxfli kit i bought off ebay a couple of years back. However I have upgraded my driver to the Nike VR_S, it's fucking sick. There isn't a club in the bag i hit better (so i am blaming the rest of my game on ordinary gear...). Got a VR_S 3-wood as well and it too is awesome.<br />
<br />
Think i'll look to upgrade the irons later in the year, won't need top of the range, but i think a better set will help a lot. Being a leftie, the range i can actually try up here is pretty limited.

Lads, this may be of little to no interest but on the off chance...<br />

A good mate is a golf nut and has been running a golf tour business for a wee bit. His latest brain child is this: http://transtasmanchallenge.com/ or on crackbook at https://www.facebook.com/TransTasmanChallenge<br />

Thought it was worth a mention, apologies for the slightly spammy taste of this particular post <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/rugby/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/eusa_whistle.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':whistle:' />

Driver technology has sure advanced over the years. When I was single figure handicapper in my late teens I struggled to hit my driver. Was 3 wood off the tee. From then I never really bothered with the old 1 wood. This was until last year where I hit a mates cheapy Srixon 460cc driver and wow I was amazed how easy it was to hit long and reasonably straight. I then purchased a decent driver....changed everything.

Yeah I used to only use a 3 wood (whic h I might add, is still the same 3 wood I have in my bag, I have never found anything that comes close to it! IS a Wilson firestick shaft and the head is so tiny compared to the new stuff)

I still have my 3 wood (King Cobra titanium thing) but am wondering if worth selling it. Does seem very small compared to my driver but could be a useful fairwood wood on the long par 5s

Pretty sweet deal on grabone today for Auckland golfers.<br />
<br />
Basically it's $28 for 2 rounds at Formosa. Your $28 gets you a green fee (usually 45 affiliated) and upon playing that round you get a voucher for a 2nd round free.<br />

You don't speak with a very husky voice and guest with Murray Deaker, JK (world of golf)? <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/rugby/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /><br />
<br />
I played a few rounds at Methven last year, on days when ski-ing was bad. It's a very nice and good value course.

I'm playing at Pupuke this weekend. My old stomping ground. Should be pretty interesting given how much my game has changed over the years.

Had a very enjoyable round this morning at pupuke. Not a lot of spectacular golf but very steady and lots of birdie putts I just couldn't convert. <br />
<br />
End result was a 79 and my first sub 80 round in about 10 years. And my first handicap back is 9.1

Ha, after I came back from the UK, and about 7 years of no golf (5 or 6 rounds in that time constitutes no golf) they put me straight back to the same handicap I was on when I left, whici I felt was quite unsportsmanlike given I was pretty good before I left...and wasnt anymore (nor am I now)<br />
