I turned it on to see the end. 🙂

I assume they play another non Asian team in the final?

Yes, the other semi-final is being played now, between Ratu Kadavulevu School (Fiji) and St Augustine's College (Australia).

I found it interesting to read in the article below, how the language barrier is affecting the tournament.

Adjusting to the interpretations of foreign referees continues to be a challenge for Hastings Boys' High School at the Sanix World Rugby Youth Invitational Tournament in Japan.

"We had a Japanese referee today. He couldn't understand Liam when he asked what our boys had to do to adjust and Liam couldn't understand him," HBHS manager Jason Bird said after his troops completed an unbeaten run in pool play with a 45-14 win against Jianguo High School from Chinese Taipei last night.

He was referring to captain Liam Udy-Johns.

"We've got an interpreter but we can't run him onto the field. This is an issue for all English-speaking nations here," Bird said.

To paraphrase; "But ref, how do we know the exact moments to stop cheating? Without you constantly coaching us throughout the 80 minutes in the English language?"

14 - 5 after they scored in the corner. RKS's running game is carving them up at the moment - and the 10 is a huge step down from McClutchie.

Alright I've got to head out, but TBH I can't handle watching that 10 anymore, he's so deep and has no movement. It's like he missed DC, AC and BB and only has tapes of Fox in the 80s.

Tafai needs to get him moving at halftime, and have the forwards cart it up in close instead of just flinging passes wide.

Hastings Boys suffered a big loss to Ratu Kadavulevu School (5 - 35) in the final. No shame, because the Fijian team was really good.

Must say, a lot of those Fijians were HUGE and simply ran over the smaller Hastings boys, but also, this year's Hastings 1st XV isn't anywhere near the level of last year's team. Still a few good, promising players: can't put names to faces or numbers, but some of the loosies - esp the no. 8 - looked good (the captain?), one of the locks, the halfback, and - on attack - both wingers. Agree with @Nepia that the no. 10 is a big step down from McClutchie.

Defence will have to be the main focus for the coaches. They'll also need to deal with pressure better. This was the first game that they really had to deal with a strong opponent and they looked a bit nervous at times. Anyway, I'm sure it has been a valuable learning experience for the team. Great to have such a tournament during preseason.

Hamilton BHS beat St Paul's Collegiate 31-10. It was a typical early season game with plenty of handling errors from both teams.

Rotorua BHS beat Tauranga Boys' College 31-3.

@kiwimurph Cheers, I've corrected the score. The Landrover 1st XV page - where I got most results from - is reasonably good, but occasionally they get it wrong.

@mikedogz I understand from what I read on FB, that some of the games played by Chiefs schools in other competitions (in this case CNI: FDMC v Wesley) double up as Chiefs Cup games. @Bovidae already posted the result of the Rotorua v Tauranga game, which may or may not double up as a Chiefs Cup and Super 8 game.

Based on the schedule I have for Hamilton BHS the Super 8 starts in June. This month is only local derbies.

@bovidae They do not always stick to the schedule though. Some games are moved to make way for traditionals or for games against touring (foreign) teams. Happens every year, and quite often.
