@tim plenty of smiles all around. We won last week boys, nothing to worry about....

Winning papers over a lot of cracks. It's also a habit.

Our weaknesses were there, but beating the Aus conference leaders away from home should be smile time

If beating Aussie teams meant anything these days then sure.

I'm not of the mind set that we should accept mediocrity, or being the joke team of the NZ conference, just because the Blues board and coaches do.

I don't disagree, but in our current state, a win is a win. We have beaten both conference leaders away from home, with injuries. We suck, but it's a small highlight in a dire season.

I just can’t see why it would be “smile time” for win number 3, especially when we limp over the finish line and other teams are smashing these guys.

        @kirwan small victories...

In a season like this why wouldnt you celebrate a win?

Otherwise you mope about lamenting how shit you are even if only papering over cracks for a week.

Not saying they have made any steps forward, but if you can't be happy after a win...

According to Scotty Stevenson, a lot of former Blues players want to be involved in mentoring etc now. These include Jason Chandler, Justin Collins, and Ofisa Tonu'u.

            Why is Collins in bold?

@kirwan Because he's one of the best and hardest working players in Blues' history.

I still love the part he played in the Spencer try against the Crusaders where he marched it to the corner flag and then kicked the conversion. Collins did that one handed pass to Spencer as he ran into the gap. Was awesome. Sadly, that's all mitigated by the fact he played for Northland. 😉

Speaking of Collins - Michael Collins is on the bench for club rugby in Auckland this weekend.

Hooray - Blues have really missed his 'communication skills'

@nepia caught up with All Black #772 Stu Wilson yesterday at the Waitemata Club yesterday, had met Stu several times in the past, got to say he was looking the best I had seen him in a very long time, amazing when you make some changes in your life.
We were talking together about the Blues and it was bad enough about the way they were travelling but it came as a real punch in the nose to see Carlos Spencer had signed with the Canes.
The great Micheal Jones who was standing with us at the time intervened, and told me that Carlos had applied for the Job as the backs coach with the Blues 2 seasons ago,Stu Wilson also confirmed that with a conversation he had Brian Williams they had together at a function during the week..
You just have to shake your head, that was at the beginning of Tanas watch..the patients really are running the asylum at the Blues.

Just on a footnote, I asked Stu if he still stayed in touch with Bernie Fraser,he said Bernie is living in a Perth, works at a mine..
He reckons the rest of his life he can’t remember, take out of that what you can..but he’s got himself right and looks really good.still funny as ever..

@steven-harris Waitemata are looking pretty good this year, aren't they? Are they a good chance for the playoffs? How did Adrian Choat go?

@tim Waitemata have had a very good off season, they are very fit,not the biggest team I have ever seen, but they do have a couple really good athletes in the pack,Adrian Choat packed down at number 8,huge workrate..
I don’t know if you remember Ari Hunt who played number 8 for the Blues in 2015,not sure what happened to this kid,I know he picked up an injury in late 2015 with Auckland, did not train and in the space of a year, had his Auckland contact torn up and ,went from 118kgs to 165kgs,Still looks around 150kg,but is now playing loosehead prop..similar story to Kalolo Tuiloma from Counties Manukau..
Richie Harris from Auckland rugby was looking at Waitmata loose forward /lock,Jay Tuivati ex Kelston Boys, incredible physical specimen, around 6”3 or 6”4 similar in build to how Ari Hunt use to look..is in the Auckland wider training squad.
The halfback Godinet Tinei and the first five Dion Fraser are only young but both looked really good..

MacDonald must have been offered a VERY good deal to move to Auckland as he was reluctant to move his family to Chch.
