Movie review thread...

It certainly had its moments funny wise, and yep you find yourself nodding/laughing at certain aspects of familiarity.<br />
<br />
Snitch - BAsed on a true story; THe ROck's kid is imprisoned for supplying drugs (allegedly to simply deliver them from point a to point b for a mate) problem is, mate has dropped him in it to get himself a deal.<br />
<br />
Only way kid can get a shorter term is if he drops someone else in it, but refuses. So The Rock takes on the drug dealers to reduce his kids sentence.<br />
<br />
Decent enough flick, more so that it is based on a true story, if not, weeeellll..... -
Just watched (mostly) I melt with you, quasi-big name cast. Rob Lowe can act. Weird, great, terrible, don't know what to make of it, loved some of the Big Sur shots, but couldn't be bothered watching the end.
I guess that because I'm not married I just found This is 40 to be a pretty slow and not very funny movie (especially by the standards of Apatow films).
<br />
<br />
I can definitely see that. Thinking back to over ten years ago, I would have found some of it funny but just got bored with the marital tension. It wasn't the "sort of sequel" to Knocked Up that I was expecting. -

This Is 40. Wife was home sick on Friday and rented it on Apple TV. Suggested I watch it before it expires tomorrow.<br />
<br />
Thought this was going to be more of a comedy - and there was a lot of funny shit in there - but by fuck some of it cut close to the bone on the marriage front.<br />
<br />
Enjoyed it overall, but glad we didn't watch it together as I could have gotten in terrible trouble...<br />

I watched this with my wife. We laughed, mostly. Some moments there was a bit of silence and then stealing looks at each other to see if certain parts resonated. In the end though we too blamed our parents and went to bed happy. True story. -
I need help with one movie. (I haven't read the books)<br />
<br />
Just watched Jack Reacher over the weekend while baking a chocolate tart and cooking a roast. One thing we missed is why did they kill those people and also why did they set up the guy to take the fall?<br />
<br />
Not a bad movie though and Jack Racher is a pretty cool cat despite being played by Tom Cruise. -
So i've been watching the big stars from the 80s a bit lately.<br />
<br />
Bullet in the Head: Stallone is a hit man who teams with a cop to solve the mystery of who's tried to kill him. Wasn't bad, gets a bunch of extra marks for having Sarah Shahi in it.<br />
<br />
The Last Stand: Arnie, small town cop on Mexican border, baddies are coming his way to cross the border, Arnie and his local crew need to stop them. Could have been a good movie if it sorted out its tone and had a scriptwriter who wasn't a total idiot. It was half serious drama an half Expendables fun and didn't quite work because of it. It could have been a gritty throwback to the old western shoot em ups but instead it was somewhere in between. The stupidity comes from having an ex elite military guy run around with a handgun while a chick as a rifle with a scope and they visit a museum type place with a range of weapons - one they use is a tommy gun. Arnie was pretty good in it, actually acted his age and wobbled around unlike Stallone still thinking he's 30. The comedy stuff could have been funny if they'd committed to that but as I said they went half and half. Still the 14 year old version of me might have loved it. -

I only just got around to it myself and as much as Crusie just doesn't fit the physical picture of Reacher he actually surprised me in that he got his personality down pretty good.<br />
<br />
The bad guys knew about the sniper's past and that he was not the soundest bloke and set up the shootings to look like he had gone postal all in order to cover that among the deaths was their real target.<br />
<br />
Seemed like a lot of overkill when they had the cops in their pocket anyway but those Reacher stories are just good yarns where you have to suspend a lot of belief anyway.
-

Cheers Crucial, Which one was the real target and why?<br />

Did you see any of the movie? <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/rugby/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' /><br />
<br />
The target was the women that owned the construction company after her husband died. The russian gang had a track record of going into cities and buying up construction companies, strong arming local officials to award them a lot of big money contracts, paying off the prosecutors then disappearing. The needed her dead to get the company.
-

Wow! I thought I watched the movie. <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/rugby/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> Thanks. The thing is it was Mrs Hooroo that asked me the question and I had no idea. I knew the fern would come to the rescue -
So I got round to watching Seven Psychopaths and Cloud Atlas, two different movies.<br />
<br />
Cloud Atlas: I quite enjoyed this once I figured out what was going on, it's basically 6 different stories (in different timeframes) and plays out like an episode of GoT jumping from story to story. The main actors (including Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Jim Sturgess, Ben Winshaw, Hugh Grant, Hugo Weaving) play different characters in each story. It starts on the Chatham Islands, and completely misrepresents the reality. I thought they were on a slave plantation in the US but in the movie the Chathams is a slave colony.<br />
<br />
Seven Psychopaths: Was good, but not as good as In Bruges, of the McDonagh brothers films I'd rate them The Guard, In Bruges and then this. I might have liked it more if Farrell and Rockwell weren't the two stars as I'm not a huge fan of either and they tend to grate on me. -
World War Z - I liked it, didnt think it was worth the 3D version, but still a decent flick, although the actual zombies at times were a bit comical, which detracted from their 'scarieness' (in that rule #1 would be irrelevant with these guys)
-
The Master: What an absolute load of bollocks. Paul T Anderson gets more and more self indulgent with each movie (I loved Boogie Nights and Magnolia and thought There Will Be Blood was crap) and his head is completely up his own arse here. <br />
<br />
I was quite looking forward to this due to good reviews, and its premise, but good damn it was awful. What little narrative it had was unfulfilling, Phoenix hammed it up with tics and scowls and affectations, and it blew the potential it had in its set up and earlier scenes.<br />
<br />
Surprisingly the best thing about this movie was Phillip Seymour Hoffman who tends to just play himself in any movie (but because he doesn't look like Cruise or Pitt etc he doesn't get called on it, and at any rate playing himself can still be good), but in this one I fully believed he was his character. -

Saw this last night and I was quite impressed, I knew nothing about it and thought it would be just a stock standard running away from Zombies movie but was presently surprised that it had a bit more depth. <br />
<br />
One thing I found funny was
that Brad Pitt's character was like the bringer of death. First he causes the cop on the motorbike to be killed by the truck going past, then once in Korea he manages to get all the Navy Seals and the key army guy at the bases killed, then he visits Israel, which until this time had been zombie free and within a couple of hours of his touching down they get overrun, then the plane he flies on gets overrun and he blows up half the plane with a grenade killing zombies, the white dog, and anyone who may have survived being zombied, as well as the two pilots who were getting him to Wales. When zombies attack, I'm avoiding Brad Pitt like the plague.
-

Yup. My partner & son were out of town one night so instead of sitting at home watching porn I decided to get out to the IMAX theatre and watch this in 3d, thinking even if it's shit it will still be awesome in 3d on the big screen. Half way through I couldn't be fucked with it anymore, what a waste of time and money.<br />

<br />
Watched part of Wrath of the Titans the other day on Sky. Apart from a dopey plot and some really shit dialogue (Ralph! Liam! WHY???), everyone having a different accent did my head in a bit.<br />
<br />
I'm the son of Zeus! Strewth! You gotta be keeding meh!
