This SW v Stormers result makes the Jaguares v Bulls extra interesting. Both Jags and Bulls are playing for that final Wild Card spot, although they're also close to the Waratahs/Rebels (whoever of those two does not win the Aussie conference).

It seems to me that the gap is narrowing between the NZ sides and the rest. Two NZ have lost against foreign opposition this week : the Highlanders (heavily) and the Chiefs. The latter were seriously weakened and their loss was predictable. But the Crusaders (last week) and the Hurricanes (on Friday) struggled against their Australian opponents. What is the most worrying is the quality of their respective displays : lots of mistakes, lack of clinical finish. Maybe there will be only three NZ sides for the quarter finals ?

The Sharks should be 4-0 against the NZ teams.

Looks Like Ashwin threw his toys out the cot:

In sensational scenes, Willemse walked off set following an apparent disagreement with co-workers Mallett and Botha.

The incident happened following the Lions' 42-24 win over the Brumbies at Ellis Park in Johannesburg.

While it remains unclear at this stage what led to Willemse's obvious unhappiness, the former Lions and Springbok wing said: “I’ve been in the game for a long time like most of us here. As a player, I’ve been called a quota for a long time and I’ve worked very hard to earn the respect I have now. I’m not going to sit here and be patronised by these two individuals (Mallett and Botha) who played their rugby during the apartheid era, a segregated era.”

Willemse went on to say he "can't work with people who undermine other people" and that he was "glad it happened on live TV so that people can see".

SuperSport host Motshidisi Mohono called the incident "unfortunate" as Willemse put down his papers and walked off camera.

In a matter of minutes the video clip went viral on social media.

SuperSport posted a tweet following the incident confirming they are "aware of the on-air incident" and are "looking into the matter".

Later on Saturday evening, SuperSport issued a second tweet stating that they view the incident "in a serious light" and will "conduct a full investigation and interview all relevant individuals".

@booboo said in Super Rugby News:

Apparently in the post game analysis of the previous game, Wilemse was upset about not been given a chance to speak, so he complained to the producer. Nic offered to let him take the lead in providing post match analysis for the Lions Brumbies game, but instead of doing that, he started the above rant.

Here is a clip which shows the lead up to the incident:

There has been tension between Mallet and Wilemse before, primarily over transformation issues (ie Stick assistant coach selection etc) So this has been building up.

The Jaguares' winning streak continues. They just smashed the Bulls 54 - 24.

If the Sanzaar website is correct, the top 8 is right now:
    Crusaders (46), Lions (36), Waratahs (31), Hurricanes (45), Chiefs (32), Highlanders (32), Jaguares (29) and Sharks (28).

The Rebels dropped out of the wild card spots with 25 points.

The Brumbies lost to the Lions overnight: 42 - 24.

Rory Arnold received a red card for a hit on Elton Jantjies when the Brumbies were still leading.

    Two-week ban for Owen Franks

Crusaders tighthead prop Owen Franks has been given a two-week suspension after pleading guilty to a charge of striking a player with the arm.

The SANZAAR Foul Play Review Committee accepted a guilty plea from Franks for contravening Law 9.12 after he was cited during a Super Rugby clash with the Blues.

Franks has been suspended from all forms of the game for two weeks, up to and including Saturday, June 2.

The incident occurred in the 36th minute of the match at Eden Park in Auckland.

The SANZAAR Foul Play Review Committee of Nigel Hampton QC (Chairman), Stefan Terblanche and John Langford assessed the case.

In his finding, Foul Play Review Committee Chairman Nigel Hampton QC ruled the following:

“Having conducted a detailed review of all the available evidence, including all camera angles, and a statement from the player and submissions from his legal representative, Aaron Lloyd, the Foul Play Review Committee upheld the citing under Law 9.12.

“With respect to sanction the Foul Play Review Committee deemed the act of foul play merited a mid-range entry point of four weeks. However, taking into account mitigating factors including the players good record over an extensive playing history which includes only one previous judicial sanction, his expressed remorse and apology to the other player, and the Player’s guilty plea at the first available opportunity, the Foul Play Review Committee reduced the suspension to two weeks.

“The player is therefore suspended for two weeks, up to and including Saturday 2 June 2018.”

    .

So Franks will be available for the first test against France.

Three-week ban for Rory Arnold (see that clip above)

Brumbies second-row Rory Arnold has been banned for three weeks after pleading guilty to a charge of a dangerous tackle against the Lions.

The SANZAAR Foul Play Review Committee accepted a guilty plea from Arnold for contravening Law 9.13: A player must not tackle an opponent early, late or dangerously, after he was red carded in Johannesburg.

Arnold has been suspended from all forms of the game for three weeks, up to and including Saturday, June 9.

The incident occurred in the 60th minute of the match between the Lions and Brumbies.

The SANZAAR Foul Play Review Committee of Nigel Hampton QC (Chairman), Stefan Terblanche and John Langford assessed the case.

In his finding, Foul Play Review Committee Chairman Nigel Hampton QC ruled the following:

“Having conducted a detailed review of all the available evidence, including all camera angles, and a statement from the player, the Foul Play Review Committee upheld the citing under Law 9.13.”

“With respect to sanction the Foul Play Review Committee deemed the act of foul play, a dangerous high tackle, merited a mid-range entry point of six weeks. However, taking into account mitigating factors including the Player’s excellent, clear, disciplinary record, his expressed remorse and his guilty plea at the first available opportunity, the Foul Play Review Committee reduced the suspension to three weeks.”

“The player is therefore suspended for three weeks, up to and including the Saturday 9 June 2018.”
