I have simple tastes as far as SW is concerned.
I'm just going to go along and watch the film at face value. Star wars takes me back to being a kid again for a couple of hours and that's fine with me

Yes, a more simple time when film makers didn't have an urge to ram their identity politics down people's throats. Pity those times are long past.

I don't think George Lucas was thinking that deeply in 1977. But film makers have always been liberal types, didn't McCarthy see them as all being communists?

Creative types generally are more liberal. I get that people don't want movies they otherwise like having a slant that they see as political and don't agree with but FFS movies are fantasy anyway. See how many sci-fi/dystopian future type movies are about worlds ruined by wars/greed over resources or facist-like power grabs. It's always been there, just hasn't always had the silly labels attached to it.

Anyway, I have tickets to Solo after work on Thursday and am looking forward to it. Not expecting anything other than a reasonably decent bit of fun set in the SW universe. In fact if it was pitched at 10-12 year olds it would probably be great.

How on earth is that the same as SJW virtue signalling and identity politics? It isn't but you'll defend this SJW bullshit because it's your side.

Not sure everyone will enjoy it, I went in with little or no expectations with Solo. But overall was happy to say it exceeded them very easily. Never at any point felt like it dragged on, wasn’t super long ( probably bang on 2 hours)
If your one of those types here who have a problem with female characters having large roles you might have cause to complain.. again
Probably didn’t enjoy it as much as Rogue One but still more then worthy to join the Star Wars universe.

No issue with strong female characters Virg so not sure why you mention it again? after all Leia, Padme, Rey and Jyn set the standard well. It's dickhead characters like Holdo and Rose I can't stand.

Can't wait till Saturdee. Boys are fired up, even the Mrs is excited too!!!

I'm fairly certain I will. Who is the character from the Prequels that re appears? I read a review telling me there is one....

Maybe that's what helps films like Solo and RO, less expectation than the main SW films

Or maybe it's just cos RO is actually a better film than the two recent main ones?

Oh yeah. There is no one factor. RO has been the best of the new films so far imho

After watching Cobra Kai, and the excellent job they did grafting the new story to the old, it shows that you can pay homage to the films/shows gone before, yet still take things in a different interesting direction and stay true to the original concept. The main SW films have not reached that point yet, they are repackaging old stories and ideas, adding little bits and calling it new

    Solo.

    Loved it.

Had no problem with the new Han and Chewie was cool. Had enough tie-ins to old stuff along with new ideas.

    :::

The old prequel character will have you working out timelines. Those that haven't followed the other canon pieces may be scratching their heads.
