Liked "Top of the Lake" although it was a bit slow at times. Wife said if it wasn't New Zealand i wouldn't have sat through it.

"Orange is the new black" is by the same crowd who did Weeds, Both I liked (the former features Laura prepon from the 70's show in a slightly different role).

Also watched Mistfits a while back (well first two seasons it went to shit after that).

I watched an episode of a show called "The Bridge" the other day and really liked it. Now need to watch the first 2 to catch up, and will start watching weekly. About a serial killer on the border between Mexico and the US. Diane Kruger is in it, which attracts my attention immediately (fans need to watch the directors cut of Troy).

Is Breaking Bad really that good? I see it has just started on FX over here, from the beginning, and i am really considering watching. Especially given you think it has an end in sight.

Another that starts later this month that looks alright is "Low Winter Sun" anyone know anything about it?

Caught a preview for this while I was watching ESPN:

http://www.search4hurt.com.au/

There were three episodes on last night, which roughly broke down into:

- They mentor a woefully underprepared American Lawyer for an Ultramarathon in Texas. He gets about halfway through before shutting down due to fatness and softness.

- Tough Bloke Challenege in Victoria

- Training with Aussie Crossfit Champ, Chad Mackay - that is one seriously powerful dude

- Training with Richmond AFL club

- Training with the Melbourne Rebels

The Crossfit stuff was killer, but the AFL upper body workout was mildly insane - pullups and push press (military press) at around 60% of body weight together for 20 minutes. Start with 5 reps of each and keep going until you fail, then drop to 4, then 3, etc. The idea is total tonnage - he got to 11 tons with a body weight of 70kg and a push press of 40kg. The AFL players in the mid-high bracket get to 15 tons. That is a lot...

Yeah I'm on ep 2 of The Bridge. Kruger's character is an odd one, seems a number of roles in stuff these days seem to be having those types cast.
Is it aspergers or something? IMO her character is not too disimililar from the likes of Bones, Sheldon and the ofte portrayed Sherlock, although I dont think her character is a genius like the others...
IMO Breaking Bad is the best thing on TV, but then I couldn't get into The Wire, so take my opinion with a grain of salt ;)

Probably hardly been downloaded much either.

Started watching Vikings tonight. Not bad. Little bit flat at times, but huge potential. I say that as a Cornwell fan.

I've started re-watching LOST on Amazon Prime. I remember that it goes on to have a couple of mid-series slumps, and it copped a lot of shit about how it finished up. However, it's a much better show with a much better full series arc than it gets credit for.

TR i watched Ep 5 of "the Bridge" last night. It started to get to me what the fuck was wrong with Kruger's character (i don't think we need to spoil it, it's not a plot point that i can see). So i googled it, apparently she is supposed to have some "undiagnosed condition on the Autism scale" which in TV terms means being socially awkward and being tactless. So yea, a lot like those annoying characters you mentioned, but they gave her empathy and feelings as well. Fuck i hate Bones.

FX having a catch up on Sunday, showing the first 5 episodes straight, so i will see the first couple then and see if it gets explained in any way.

I've only watched 2 eps so far of The Bridge, which was amusing watching her character do what she did, which I thought wasnt unlike Carrie in Homeland who has her own issues....

First of final 8 episodes of Breaking Bad started last night. Awesome. Fulfilled expectations. Can't wait to see how it pans out.

Only blemish is that Netflix are adding an episode a week rather than releasing all 8 in one go. Fuckers.
Jeez old Walt really does think he is untouchable though!

He barely denied it, and thought it was ballsy of Hank to confront him when he is well aware how dangerous Walt must be.

I've long thought Walt was gonna need to deal with Hank before he got too close, looks like he missed that boat!
August 14, 2013 7:40 pm
By Matthew Garrahan in Los Angeles

Microsoft has agreed to finance a remake of the cult BBC TV science fiction series Blake’s 7 for its Xbox Live digital network, according to people familiar with the situation.

The deal represents the latest move by the technology company to create new video programming for the Xbox, which it has repositioned as an entertainment hub. It has sold 76m Xbox consoles and has close to 50m subscribers to Xbox Live, a digital media network that allows users to compete against each other and download video.

Microsoft declined to comment, but a person familiar with the deal said the company had agreed to finance development and production of the show, although it had not committed to a full series.

Microsoft has replaced the Syfy cable channel, part of Comcast’s NBCUniversal group, which was originally lined to up to remake Blake’s 7.

Best known for its shaky sets and improbable storylines, Blake’s 7 ran for four series on BBC TV in the late 1970s and early 1980s – surviving the departure of its eponymous hero halfway through, and culminating in the apparent demise of almost all its other characters in a final episode slow-motion shoot out. It was devised by Terry Nation – creator of Doctor Who’s Daleks – who pitched it to the BBC as “The Dirty Dozen in space”.

The series will be redeveloped for 21st-century viewers by Motion Picture Capital, a London-based film and television company backed by Reliance, the Indian conglomerate controlled by Anil Ambani. Martin Campbell, the director of Casino Royale has been enlisted to direct the series. MPC declined to comment.

Microsoft has already struck a deal with Steven Spielberg to produce a live-action series of its hit game series Halo, with the show to be distributed on the Xbox Live platform.

In acquiring rights to premium content that would have appeared on TV, Microsoft is pursuing a similar strategy to Amazon and Netflix. Netflix won plaudits this year for its remake of the BBC series House of Cards, starring Kevin Spacey, while Amazon has commissioned five original series, including Alpha House , a political comedy starring John Goodman. All of the programmes will be streamed to viewers over the internet.

Microsoft is also making a push into Hollywood, hiring Nancy Tellem, the former president of CBS Television Studios, to launch Xbox Entertainment Studios in Los Angeles.

Ms Tellem could not be reached for comment but she told the Fortune Brainstorm conference in Aspen recently that Microsoft wanted to create a “different kind of TV experience” for the Xbox which would be more interactive. “Instead of it being a passive experience you can choose to either passively watch or connect in real time with your friends or across the US or globally … with the content on our platform,” she said.

Microsoft recently launched the Xbox One, a new version of its flagship games consol, with greater video capability. Users can use or stream a variety of services on the Xbox, including Netflix, the BBC iPlayer and SkyGo, the streaming service.

Am looking forward to the next episode-we should make some predictions for the remaining episodes. Here are mine, scatter gun approach:

-Skylar apologises to Hank and/or Marie, and he plans to gets her and family into witness protection, but Lydia and Czech/the other gang kidnap Junior to manipulate Walt. Possibly Walt kills Skylar in argument.

-Gus's family come after Walt for revenge, and Hank is killed in the crossfire

-Walt uses the gun on Grey Matter

-Jesse kills Walt in the end, and buries him in the desert, after Walt apologises for what he's done

OR

Walt kills Jesse in an earlier episode (and takes his jacket...), then takes ricin and wanders off in the desert to die alone, vomiting blood (like the Star Trek skit).
