@Baron-Silas-Greenback I find myself wishing you went to the media to expose this sort of thing as the media eat that type of shit up.

Yip, and we already had it all lined up. That is how we got a pay out. Only reason the master franchise started behaving is because he could see how shite it looked.

I'm getting agitated just reading this post.

#Metoo. I have council planner at our place for resource consent on monday. If I am on here being even more curmudgeonly than @Baron-Silas-Greenback you will all know why.

Pleased that I haven't gone with a building company after comments above. I deal direct with all of the contractors which is time consuming but at least I know what is going on. I did make the mistake of employing a company to deal with council as I thought that I might walk into their offices and start hitting people. Now I want to walk into the office of the people dealing with council and start hitting them instead.

@baron-silas-greenback genuine question; how is this muppet still employed?

ho ho ho. You don't work much with Councils, do you 🙂

Unfortunately, their view of the world usually (and it's not all councils or council employees) doesn't include pragmatism, reality, timeliness or cost effectiveness. There are a lot of cultural aspects to this... but not usually healthy ones.

Yup. Within pretty much all councils or govt depts you'll find 'lifers' - people who have been there about their whole career. So they are insulated from the private sector (where they would be out on their ass for sheer incompetence) and become king of their own little fiefdom. They are still employed long after they should be because they tend to have all the info 'in their heads'. You know, rather than documented anywhere. If these people actually pulled finger rather be assholes who turn a 3 step process into a 65 step one, there would be little need for consultants.

Yeah, but actually only lodged the file a week or two ago. Was lots of debate between council, geotech, earth mover, architect, me, about where dispersal field could go, etc.

I received a letter today saying that my application had been approved. Not thatI had resource consent, but that I had filled in the forms correctly to apply for resource consent. Actually quite proud of that, they normally find something wrong.

The accompanying letter had instructions to deal with Watercare about drainage, wastewater, town supply that sort of thing, in spite the fact that my application had water tanks and a worm system for sewerage. Watercare wouldn't have fucking clue about where I am, but apparently I should get in touch with them about services that they can't provide (and I pay rates for).

I might write a comedy show when all of this is done because so much of it is a joke.

haha reminds me of when you have Disputes Tribunal hearings and after the ruling, one of the parties may try to request a re-hearing, so they might have a hearing to determine if they should have a re-hearing.

For what I am doing now -$2500 deposit for resource consent (Auckland council). That is a deposit, they can hit you for whatever they like after that. Also resource consent to allow me to move some earth from a high bit to a low bit. All on site, old farm paddocks. Wastewater is from an electricity free, worm system, gravity fed over as much of a 11ha property as needed. Roof runoff into water tanks, overflow into existing stream. That should be about a $20 sign off for a council worker, but no. They will justify their jobs somehow and that isn't even building consent! That isn't even a rant - I can do much better.
    . "

I always thought the resource consent act was a massive pain in the arse to get anything done - as your post suggested..

which is why i'm completely blown away that across the road from us a developer has gotten permission to build 6 apartments 5 stories high on a single site.. completely non notified.

people living behind it - who are going to have a 5 story apartment 2m from their fence - only found out about it because one of their other neighbours son is a quantity surveyor who was approached to work on it and he let everyone know.
All neighbours contacted council, they said 'oh submissions close in 2 days' - on something no one knew about. lots of people submitted, no one heard anything back.. and it's been given approval.

long story short, councils are carnts.

They changed the RMA last year. A shit load of things don't need to be notified now.

I'm all for fewer regulations and hassles for people to use their own land, but the neighbours should have a chance to have a say.

Yes councils are the worst form of regulation / carnts.

yeh in that area it was for buildings up to 3 stories under the unitary plan... i'm kinda thinking that something that goes a full two stories over the councils own guidelines should be farking notified! at the very least to the punters living next door!!

the other fcuked bit about it was that the person doing the review wasn't even the council - they're too busy - so it's outsourced.. to someone that works at a development company.

oh and that was the other crazy thing. It was the developer who put in the application that somehow got to decide that there was no impact to the surrounding area so was non notified.. errr what?!
