@canefan that game he scored 60 in 3 quarters, he dribbled something like 12(?) times to get all those points. Lots of catch and shoot. Amazing footwork to be able to get in those positions.

Charles Barkley on LeBron v MJ

“Any media person that I see in person for the rest of my life who try to tell me that LeBron James is as good as Michael Jordan… I’m just going to slap the hell out of them right on the spot. Right on the [expletive] spot. No questions asked.

The next person who walks up to me and says ‘LeBron James, he was amazing. As good as Michael Jordan’ or ‘competes like Michael Jordan,’ I’m just going to slap the hell out of you right on the spot, and I’m going to take my chances with the judicial system.”

    Nick Schwartz  /  Jun 8, 2018  /  sports

Charles Barkley: I'll 'slap' anyone who says LeBron is equal to Michael Jordan

Charles Barkley: I'll 'slap' anyone who says LeBron is equal to Michael Jordan

The LeBron James-Michael Jordan debate has been settled, at least for Charles Barkley. Barkley sounded off on the comparison between Jordan and LeBron after the Warriors completed a sweep of the Cavaliers Friday night, and warned any media member who tries to argue that…

I agree with this article from Marc Hinton. I don't begrudge Steven Adams earning big money playing in the NBA, but his professions that he is a proud Kiwi fall very flat with me. I think he should be playing for Tall Blacks when the time is right. To me this is very disappointing. I imagine there will be wide ranging views on this, but that's my take.

@canefan That's fine. I can see the argument. I just don't like it.

I take only a passing interest in basketball, so I don't really care, but I just don't support him over any other random player in the NBA.

I suspect I am not in the majority - and I am fine with that too.

In an ideal world he would play for NZ. IIRC most if not all of the aussies in the NBA play for the Boomers. It's his choice I guess, but I would like to see him in black at some stage of his prime

He came into the NBA as a very speculative 12th pick after only 1 year of college ball. He was extremely raw by NBA standards.

Every offseason since then he has added a new element to his game: really aggressive screen setting, offensive rebounding, a decent hook shot, a decent short-range jumper. How do you reckon he does that and comes back better each NBA season? Its by working hard with top level NBA coaches/trainers all summer, not playing for NZ.

It's the offseason work that has taken him from being a raw back-up to Kendrick Perkins in 2013 to one of the franchise players for a top-6 NBA team with a $100m contract and talked about as a potential All Star. I think you'd take that over putting on the black singlet - he can always do that later in his career after he's peaked in the NBA. Not ideal for NZ basketball, but its the right decision for me.

    I’m pretty agnostic on this.

With the Aussies, it’s a little different given the historical context. For the Aussie players in the NBA they grew up with the Boomers being thereabouts for a medal chance. So the fact there are now quite a few in the NBA that all want to play it does make the decision somewhat easier you would think as they would be on to each other about it.

    Baines
    Ingles
    Mills
    Delly
    Exum
    Simmons
    Maker

That’s a solid core right there that would get you pretty excited about putting on the (ugly) green and yellow.

Unfortunately the problem is that although Adams says he wants to play for the Tall Blacks at the Olympics/World Champs, they need him to play in order to qualify for these tournaments.

Did Seam Marks use to play these qualification tournaments? I only recall him playing at Sydney and the world champs.

I don't remember him playing all the time, but then again my memory is not what it used to be

There is only one Oceania direct Olympic Games qualifier now so that means NZ needs to beat Aust. They failed to qualify for Rio through the wild card qualifying tournament.

These games are for qualifying for the 2019 FIBA World Cup. 7 countries will qualify from the Asia/Oceania region with the 2nd round from Sept-Feb, which will clash with the NBA season.

Kawhi doesn't have nearly as much power as Lebron or PG. He's still got a year to go on his deal, so he can request a trade anywhere he wants, but it doesn't mean the Spurs have to do anything.

They should certainly move him, but should sell him off to the highest bidder. Boston looks the most attractive partner, but there are plenty of other suitors that could make a move.

I reckon he'd fit beautifully on the 76ers, for what it's worth...

If they trade him to a team that he doesn't want to they will run the risk of him leaving for nothing after a year. If he names a destination it will scare off potential suitors. It may not happen, the Spurs might be able to turn him around.

It sounds serious, he feels betrayed by the Spurs over his injury and the money he's leaving on the table is irrelevant

Sources: Kawhi wants to leave Spurs, eyes L.A.

After seven seasons in San Antonio, Kawhi Leonard says he wants to leave the club, sources told ESPN. Leonard has Los Angeles as a top destination, sources say.

SA may have to begrudgingly deal with LA. Knowing they can never get full value, I could see Kuzma and Ingram being the cornerstones of a trade package. Kawhi and Bron have been texting, LA will field a starting 5 anchored by Leonard, Bron, PG, pass first Lonzo Ball, and a mid level vet. Looks great on paper but where is the 3 point shooting coming from?

Both Leonard and Lebron are much improved 3pt shooters. PG has some of the longest range in the NBA. Steaky no doubt, but he’s a genuine threat.

What is key is a small ball lineup that will trouble Rockets and Warriors.

Whilst all three are small forwards, they are all versatile on both ends.
