We're not going down this year as we have too many yearlings of value that we will want to keep an eye on over this period and also tightening of belts means it's easier to work the stats than pay double time etc.

Will just be going to Whangamata from the 20th to the 29th and popping back to the farm to keep an eye on things. (I'm back at work on the 4th I think)
-
Gutted mate! I'm down from 23rd til 2nd and then back here but not back to work until 20th so plenty of time for golf and fishing.

So in that case, do you have recommendations other than rangiora? Kaiapoi looks cheap and cheerful but what about Pegasus? Worth shelling out the $ for? -

so it took me 45 holes to make a birdie!!

Shot a 79 round a par 71 today, 3 birdies in the end, 36 putts, after 2 birdies in a row I 3 putted the last 2 holes.

I cant recall hitting the ball so poorly off the tee before, just no idea where the ball is going, my usual stock shot of a draw is nowhere to be seen...luckily my mid to short irons are pretty good, getting me to the green to 3 putt!

Waimakariri is also a great country course with some very scenic holes. Really good nick too

Pegasus is ok. Worth playing but you won't rush back. -

Where abouts is this course mate?

Just saw ya scored card and the front 9 looks crazy short. Only 1 par 4 over 300m and its 304m. I suspect there are a few dog legs there?
-

about 20 mins out of Whangarei, east (Parua Bay)

Very short (worth noting this was off the white tees too, but blues arent a great deal longer) has alot of smallish greens, with a few elevated as well, so easy to kick way off.

Dont get as much run as other courses as most of the course has good coverage of kaikuia grass.

That 4th hole of 257, I hit the front fringe off the tee with a 3 wood, but it a steepish bank so bounced up and rolled back down, failed to get up and down, is the kind of hole you are better hitting a 6 iron to give you a decent shot in, but that aint as cool as knocking it on with a 3 wood (when it works)

There are 3 of the par 4's that are properly reachable off the tee, but takes an extremely accurate shot to manage it (the 7th I was sitting almost pin high 10 feet to the left of the green - 1st tee went OOB - but entire fairway has a big slope right to left right down onto the next hole)

The par 5 on the front 9 used to be a long tough par 4, but they changed the course configuration and the par 5 in the front 9 became the 10th, and they just change it to a par 5 without adding length.

It was on the older layout I had my lowest ever score on a 70 or better par course. :)

THE PINES COURSE

Total contract to Kerikeri which is well over 6,000m with a few par 4's just under 400m
-

I play lots of shots from interesting places like this. next to paths, other tee boxes, the next green... you get to see a lot of the course when you play like i do, and really get your money's worth.

be picking your brain for northland courses to play next year TR
-

haha, that was just a pic for the view, right outside the clubhouse looking down the 10th, practice putting green on the left... that said, I also like to get my monies worth and venture left and right of the intended course...

No worries, plenty of good courses to play, be happy to show you round one too!
-

yea, i'll be keen for that certainly.

-

And I might even join ya!

Kerikeri looks good on the card. Some decent length 4s and 5s there. The Grange last week had a couple of beast par 4s, one was 420odd metres and the other about 430m. I know plenty of courses with par5s shorter than that!
-

How much is the membership at the course you are at JK, given it isnt a local course for you.

-

thats pretty good...I pay $140 for Full Membership at my course (the one I started on) when I first started they had fences round the greens, sheep on the course. Is only 9 holes but no more sheep (except over summer) but is a tough little course!

I was paying $750 at Whangarei GC, but stopped donating to them when I wasnt playing enough.

We always have a few Auckland members on the books, as do a few of the other country clubs up this way (Paparoa, Matarua)

You ever played your course?
-

ok, I thought you may have had a connection with it...I see you are in the top 16% in the Manawatu though... :)

edit; Kerikeri card
