I'm an emergency warden in our building at work and today during the pre-exercise briefing we had a guy tell us about Rick Rescoria.

Seriously, fucking read this life story about a dead hard fluffybunny known as "The Cornish Hawk", who saved every one of his charges during 9/11 attack on WTC :

I'd like to show this story to everyone who gives me shit while I'm conducting an emergency drill, and ask them what they think of my humourless demeanour when I'm thinking about the possibilities of serious harm
-

I've seen that before - was very bemused. He's one of my heroes. Ah well, he loves his wife.

I saw Fripp, it must have been about 20 years ago, he came into the pub I frequented with his little black stool, a little amp and some pedals and blew everybody's mind. He looked exactly the same them, very dapper, very sober and hilarious. He played and told his Hendrix story and chatted and answered questions, one of the most entertaining nights of my life and it cost us absolutely nothing. I won't hear a bad word against him, but yes that's an embarrassing few minutes there.

FYI, I also saw Toyah at the Rock Garden. She was insane. Not insanely good, just insane.
-

After a couple years soliciting interviews (he won't do phoners - they have to be in-person), Bob wrote me a letter from England about 20 years ago, said he was going to be in NYC in two days, could I get down to interview at his hotel. Sadly, I had a conflict and could not make it on such short notice. One of the bigger regrets in my life. I am sure he would have been genuinely nice - I met him briefly circa 1983 prior to a lecture and frippertronics demonstration he was giving at the University of Waterloo, he was a super-polite gentleman, pretty much what you see in that TV clip with Toyah... but I would have shit my pants in fear.

Apparently there's an American conservative metal band called Madison Rising, and they have a song called Right to Bear.

Ah, um, ah ah... that's not actually wycked sceptre style irony...

As one wag has suggested:

Hey, we got a Right to Bear
don't tell us how to behave
we got a Right to Bear
not everyone wants to shave

-
