@stargazer Fielding HS having a good year? Also, how many teams in the Central North Island these days (which apparently stretches to South Auckland now).

Several school games are livestreamed for, I think, $5 per live game (and 7 days access to the selected school's games on demand). Haven't tried it, so I don't know what the quality of the streams is like.

Posted on the magpies schools post by accident the other day and then again today but here it is....

                @jk said in Schoolboy Rugby:

Huge game in the North Harbour schools comp this weekend with Takapuna Grammer hosting Westlake.

Both teams unbeaten sitting locked on 54 points each on the standings with the 3rd place team back on 33 points.

They met earlier in the season and had a 27 - 27 draw. Hopefully a cracking game. May be the case of who turns up best after a 3 week break for school holidays

So game was today and Westlake won a tough but really good game of rugby 21-16. Think was 13-6 half time to Westlake and got to 13-11 before Westlake scored an unconverted try and then snapped a nice drop goal to push it out of the converted try range. Very smart. Taka got a late try to narrow the gap but Westlake regained ball from kickoff and closed out the game.

Otago & Southland schools, didn't they used to play in the Press Cup (now UC) a few years ago?

The North Harbour comp seems to be refreshingly even.

@stockcar86 That's a very convincing win! I just watched the first half and Napier Boys are looking good. Those Thompson brothers look promising; Teddy too.

With Hamilton probably the favourites to win the Super 8, it will be interesting who out of Napier and Hastings will make the final.

The Moascar Cup is the oldest, most prestigious and storied trophy in NZ 1st XV rugby, and dates back to the end of World War One. The Cup is played for under a challenge system, not unlike the Ranfurly Shield.

On Saturday, Nelson College – defenders of the Cup for over 2 years and 16 matches – relinquished their hold when defeated by Christchurch Boys High School. It was an amazing tenure, and one worth recapping.

Moascar Cup oldest, really? Polson Banner between NBHS and PNBHS started back in 1904

                                    Super 8 Final

Awesome first half from Napier. Apart from maybe the first 5-10 minutes, they completely dominated the first half.

HT: Hamilton BHS 5 - 17 Napier BHS

Wow, what a game. High quality stuff!

Hamilton Boys again initially dominated the 2nd half (about 20 mins), coming back to 17 all. Then Napier found back it's momentum and scored a try, but in the last seconds of the game, Hamilton got a penalty in front of the sticks, which led to a 3-pointer.

Hamilton has won the Super 8 final, but scored fewer tries (3 to 4). If the Napier kicker had converted more tries, Napier would have taken it. Both teams were evenly matched and both deserved to win.

FT: Hamilton Boys 23 - 22 Napier Boys

                                      Congrats to Hamilton!

That was a game with plenty of twists and turns. As I have said previously, Napier is a very good team, and I wouldn't be surprised to see them as the Canes rep in the Top 4, and even potential winners. I recorded the game so will watch a replay at some stage. It was a great day for rugby and there was a decent crowd to watch.
