Not sure how you post scores on here but started on Saturday birdie birdie par par par par. Rain came and game fell apart. Lost out on first on count back. 😞 still the second place ham was awesome.

Putter was on fire. Anything within 8 foot was sunk except one hole

I'll be putting about 400 balls down the driving range this week in an attempt to get rid of my slice.

    I'm not a fan of driving ranges as the ball flight is so much different and they tend to mask faults.

As much as I'd like to stand in the fairway all day, I'm not sure others would be so obliging. :)

I use the range solely for trying to groove my swing. I do not take too much notice of my distances or the actual flight. If it goes straight most of the time I know I'm doing OK.

I use the range simply to get my swing moving, or for a bit of coaching, but not a fan otherwise.

Range balls suck.

    Ughhhhh just had the most frustrating 9 hole twilight tonight down waitamata. Shot 39 (5 over) which included 2 stupid double bogeys after good drives just strayed a little and were then followed up with DUMB shots.

Couldn't putt at all and the only birdie came on a par 3 that I managed to put my tee shot to about 6inches and it was a putt I couldn't miss. Scored a bottle of wine and some meat for closest to pin.

Played in a Xmas Cheer tournament on Sunday, got me a tin of bicsuits (lucky given I only had 38 stb) and half a dozen golf balls (Optima Tour Soft???) for 2 2's.

They are taking ages to enter my score...

Hit the ball pretty well, made 4 birdies, had 2 doubles on 2 short bloody par 5's (out of bounds on one and drop from a hazard on the other) No 3 putts, but still had 31 putts (which included a 2 putt birdie on a short par 4)

Made some dumb errors after some great tee shots, but all in all pretty happy shooting 78 with those 2 doubles in there which I should be paring at worst...

I'd not say really getting back into it, just getting back to hitting some good shots. Always frustrating playing now, knowing I used to be so much better, and still having that expectation of my game.

I need to play a few more rounds between now and Feb as I have a pairs match play tournie then and I'd like my handicap to move out another shot or 2....

    Pot hunter eh?

I know what you mean about expectations, I think it hits most of us but in different ways. For instance I KNOW I can hit a golf ball pretty well and consequently I expect to do so all the time but the reality is that on average I am, well, average. But those good shots give me expectations.

Bloody game.

    Pot hunter? Not heard that expression?

I played maybe half a dozen rounds from about 1998 to 2005 and then when I returned to golf they threw me back on the handicap I left on!

My handicap is currently 2 strokes lower than where I reckon it should be, I mean it has taken me 8 years to get it out 3 strokes from when I started again in 05!

aka burglar.....you know the guy who comes in at twilight with 27stableford points or at the monthly open day with 49 stableford. I once did that just by fluking a decent round (think I shot 85 or 86 off a 27 - first time ever shot in the 80s) and had a shit load of points. Felt so bad but so good.

I was keen to get my handicap out ahead of a comp I am playing on the 27th Dec down south but I didnt get another round card in in time. Needed another to have it update and it'll move out almost a shot I reckon if I keep playing like I have been recently. Oh well.

    Pot = trophy.
Hunter = searcher

Pot hunter = bandit

Played today on a links course where the lies were tighter than a Brazillian. Really cold. No motivation and playing with a bunch of tossers. Needless to say I (ahem) out tossed them. Managed to get one prize on a nearest the pin. Scuffed an 8 iron under the weather, off to the left but with a basket load of cut on it. ended up 6 feet from the pin without getting more than the same off the ground. Summed up the whole fucking round.

Oh missed the putt of course.

Then walked off back to clubhouse in the freezing cold with hail coming down with five holes still to play.

Best part of the day was the prize presentation. " And in third place is Jeff". Up gets Jeff mumbling about never, ever getting a prize. "No. Not you. the other Jeff" Priceless as Jeff No1 had acquired less points than a blunt spoon.

    Thought that May have been the case....there are always those, but I would need to go out about 7+ shots to be in that league 🙂

ha, I wish!! But I dont know of too many single figure burglars/pot hunters :)

I know plenty in the 15-22 bracket though, in fact when I played a few weeks back there was a guy who has been renowned for being a burglar as far back as I can remember (at his peak he was a 10-12 handicapper, but never seemed to be under 15 handicap) he must be late 60's now, playing off about a 20; 44 points, I dunno how guys like that can show thier faces!
