@kiwimurph and the next part of the story will probably read something like this, has an outstanding season for Ta$man, and then signs with the Saders and Ta$man.
Think I have read this script before.

Jordie has never played first 5 in his life, only against the lions for the canes for about 20 minutes

And did a better job in that 20 minutes than any of the other β€œprospects” floating around.

Agree. He was good enough that he looked a serious option as a first. My view is he should focus on FB and a backup 1st not center. Although unfortunately the current Canes coaches are not good at seeing outside of the box. Plumtree was never more than a very good (or even great) plodder forward coach who I still doubt will ever win anything as a head coach. In part because he can't see outside of his simple black and white world.

Hurricanes coach John Plumtree will play Vaea Fifita at 6 if he's good enough

    https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/rugby/super-rugby/106291699/hurricanes-coach-john-plumtree-will-play-vaea-fifita-at-6-if-hes-good-enough

Fifita needs to find a coach who rates him. As its clear that Plumtree doesn't. Maybe he will have more luck at the Chiefs. But he needs to find a coach who will give him a run at 6 at super level

And Plumtree should have just keep his mouth shut rather than rubbishing a hurt player in the media. Its not as if be won't have other options. But Plumtree does like the workhorse type players and Fifita doesn't really fit. So hes just being honest

I worry for the future of the Canes. We did better re AB selection with useless Hammett as coach. And if top players know there AB chances are not good with one team they will just sign elsewhere if wanted. Although with Hansen as head coach the Crusaders are clearly the place to be. And the Highlanders next.

    @bones

saying "if he's good enough". Its saying straight out he doesn't think hes good enough now as a 6. Fifita needs to find a team and coach who rates him as a 6 not a lock. Or move overseas and rake in the big money. As an exciting (not workhorse) 6 who can cover lock if required. Let Plumtree have his team of plodder forwards with a limited, basic attacking game plan to see it goes

Plumtree likes plodder forwards and a very basic (boring) game plan. Fifita doesn't fit. And its one reason why hes never won anything as a head coach. He's done well but always fails to finish it off.

I never thought the Currie Cup was a real competition either.

At least Gibbes seems to know how to motivate players in public. πŸ‘ Plumtree's a fool.

Wellington coach Chris Gibbes has agreed to play Fifita at six during the provincial season and provide an avenue back to the black jersey. But it remains to be seen if he can then become the longterm replacement for Brad Shields at the Hurricanes.

@winger oh wow, coach at much lower level with plenty of locks plays a utility at 6. That's remarkable.

Plumtree on what a blindside does:

"Our best sixes in the country have always been guys with relentless work ethics and that's going to be a department that Vaea's going to have to learn.

"We know he's capable of running the ball, particularly on the edges of the field, and we've seen that. But, for me, a six is a ball winner and he's got to be a big defender and he's also got to be a momentum-carrier and provide momentum for the team through his ability to carry the ball and do it on a regular basis

Good thing he wasn't coaching the All Blacks or we'd never have had players like Kaino, Collins, Jones, Whetton...

At least he's willing to give him a chance. That Plumtree doesn't seem to be. Its a shame because the Canes are boring with a team of plodders and such a basic game plan. Every team needs a mix of players not just the workhorse types.

But thankfully the super rugby is finished now. And I can support a team that hopefully (it was last year after the previous rubbish years with a third rate coach appointed by his mate) is well coached with a sensible game plan

Where does Plumtree say he won't get a chance? That appears to be exactly what he is saying!

Yeah Plumtree rates him so lowly that he played him at lock. Good one.
