Yeah Rectify was an odd one, it just meandered along rather than the explosive moments many series rely on, but was just enough bubbling under keeping you watching

-

Looking forward to True Detective with Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConnawhatsit. Coming to the UK in Feb.

Hope its not referential 'landmark' TV with built-in delusions of grandeur from the outset. Trailer looks good though.

watched new episode of Sherlock.
Showed how he did it, which TBH was pretty easy really, and when broken down, you can see it wasnt quite as hard to pull off given he was only trying to convince Watson, which is the odd bit really.

Am assuming MOriaty also faked his death too.
Just caught up with it myself
I'm not convinced he did actually explain the faking, but that is also what the writers want to leave as mystery as well. His only real explanation was to Anderson who doubted aspects of it.

The true explanation would be to Watson but that never came.

I have suspicions of Watson's fiancee though. She was too keen to get him back with Sherlock and the unexplained bit with John being attacked then saved with pinpoint timing was far too far-fetched without her being in the chain of events.

Have yet to watch the second ep so may be proved wrong.
-
Yeah I think you may be right, he kinda explained it, but didnt.

Def somethign off about his Missus, but the question for me is why was it important for Watson, and almost him alone to believe he was dead, given the huge number of people that would have needed to be involved.

I am yet to watch ep 2 as well.
-

Mob City - a 6 or 3 part mini series (I watched it as three 90 minute episodes but they're clearly filmed as six 45 minute episodes) created by Frank Darabont. It was ok, they were going for a film noir type feel and using music from that era - lots of trumpets - so it seemed a wee bit off at times. It's loosely about Micky Cohen, Bugsy Siegel and the cops trying to bring them down. Watchable but nothing startling - pretensions to be more than it is I think. The lead actor is pretty uncharismatic and they might have been better to focus more on some of the other actors. Ed Burns plays Siegel and Neil McDonough of Band of Brothers (Lt Buck Compton) might have better to focus on.

Anyone seen the Hannibal TV series? Advertised to start here in NZ (TV3) soon.

It's pretty entertaining, though also pretty ridiculous. They tone down the annoying "guy reverses time in his mind" pretty quickly, thankfully. The level of gore is quite shocking for a US network TV show.
-

Good review of Banshee that excellently sums the show up.

they went all out with the cast on that one! Certainly sounds the goods!

Really like Harrelson, and McConnaghy (meh) is usually pretty good too.
-

I read that it will be an ongoing show, but with a new cast each series.
-

True detective

Looks the goods well acted and nice and dark. McConnaghy must have shelled a lot of weight to play the younger version though. Looks properly sick!
-

Finished The Americans, Kurt Sutter should probably watch the last episode for some pointers on how to finish a series, although I expect he has something bigger in mind this year!

Anywhoo, enjoyed the Americans, Keri Russell is kinda hot, looking forward to a small break for S2! Gotta love the fashion and technology though!

MArgo Martindale is good too.
-

anyone seen Peaky Blinders?

Is a British Gangster series set in Brummy-land in the 20's...my brother gave me the series, hadnt heard of it but sounds pretty good and has Cillian Murphy as the lead (who is usually pretty good)
-

I thought it was superb tv. Great cast, excellent soundtrack, good stories and apparently historically accurate.

Sam Neill too

Watch it with no distractions if you can. -

Just watched the first episode and thought it was really good. I think that the weight loss was actually for Dallas Buyers Club.

Masters of Sex: So I'm halfway through and this show is really not living up to the hype for me. I'm really finding it a slog. Caplan and Sheen just annoy me and I like them both usually. Oh well, you can't like them all I guess.

Good show, it should be starting again soon. Much like Masters of Sex I don't get the Margo Martindale love either - don't get me wrong, I think she's good at what she does, but not the legend she's portrayed to be since playing Mags in Justified. But then again, I have figured out why I may not like that role so much - as it's another one of these particular and deliberate villains that are popping up all the time now that I can't stand ... maybe she was the first and deserves the credit?
-
Just saw the first 2 episodes of Hannibal. Pretty good. Really like Mads Mikkelsen as Hannibal. They'll obviously have to alter his back story. Mads is too young to have been around during WW2.
