From memory wasn't his mantra that the tight head prop was the most important member of the squad and the second most important was the reserve tight head?

Spot on. It was horse shit then and is still horse shit now.

It's quite a good subject. What is the single most important position in the team

    Missionary?

Before BBBR I would never had said lock, but, when he's not playing the ABs are significantly more beatable.

For the backs probably 9 - a shit 9 can just cripple a backline no matter who is outside him.

Agree on BBBR, also, I reckon the 1960's versions of us arguing in the pub during the 6 o'clock swill would have said lock too.

Thats on a par with " all rugby happens in the front row, the rest is just decoration" said by someone so large they deserve their own gravitational field right before they waddle off to the buffet for their third helping.

I'm always confused by people who profess their love for all things scrummaging, who then complain when someone knocks on...

Yep, and although I didn't agree with him, I enjoyed his passion for it.

I don't think there is a single important position ... I'd say the most important position in a team is whichever one your best player is in.

Me must have to question his choices daily because he runs his own rugby recruitment business which includes placing backs into clubs around the world. I do wonder how he talks them up.... 🙂

    A necessary evil?

I'd say the most important position is whichever your worst player is in. Like 7 has been the most important position for England for a number of years now. Solve that and we become a different team.

In that case then that's reserve hooker for us currently (until Coles returns).

I haven't really had any shots at Whitelock - others have that covered. But 6 would be out starting position that's the weakest probably with Squire still newish and not yet Kaino and the Tongan's and a lock backing him up.

@majorrage I think mine would probably come down to undertow or rocket.

Or maybe a lag wagon or millencollin ditty.
