I enjoyed the film , but realized why afterwards. I read the book first, so all the bits they missed were in my head and I enjoyed the part of the story they did show. Worth getting the book and reading that, it's much, much better.

Kingsley's character was a Maori in the book too.

Maybe they shoulda just got a Maori (Tem has been looking for work) it annoys me when they cast someone and get them to put on an accent (I know it is the 'big name thing for the part' but I feel it detracts when they do a poor job)

I reckon they coulda got away with him speaking normally, as he says in the movie his father was a Maori, so it could have been assumed he just grew up elsewhere.

I liked the plot of the movie, just didnt quite get there for me.

I won't spoil the book, but the movie missed the point of the story.

If it's a good accent, it doesn't matter who the actor is. Look at all the Kiwi/Aussie/English actors doing american accents for example.

Could have been worse;

Myself, and the people I was watching with thought that Jarrett's accent was as bad as Tarantino's - and he's actually Australian.

The Wolf of Wall St has the worst Kiwi accents though - three people speak and they all sound different from each other while not sounding anything like a Kiwi accent.

Given the movie, I'd not be surprised if that was intentional?

Am sure plenty of us could ham up a strong Kiwi accent!

Yep, that's what I thought at the time ... but it always features in these conversations.

If I want to do a ham Kiwi accent I just do my John Key impersonation. ;)

Nerd alert: In the book he's a half Maori NZ'er - so I guess that gave them scope to pick a tanned Englishman and add a moko!!?

Let's not forget about "Ramirez" the Spanish named Scottish accented Egyptian.

To this day I still can't for the life of me understand that back story or who ever thought it was a good idea to cast a frog as a scot opposite Connery. Still "there can only be 1.."

There's a fan theory that his character on the rock is James Bond , which personally I think is pretty awsome.

Blackjacks; SEAL Patrol - unless you have 1 hour and 20 minutes free and dont mind using it watching this rather than staring at the ceiling, dont bother, granted there was some decent nudity early on, but not enough to sustain 1 hour and 20 minutes of poor story, poor acting and limited realism.

The character is supposed to be Clint Eastwood (playing the real-life Frank Morris) who escaped in 1962.

While you have your tinfoil hat one what do you think of the idea that Ferris Buellers day off happened entirely in his disturbed mates mind?
