@no-quarter be scary enough just walking on that road, let alone being driven by someone else!

I was driven on a road that looked very, very similar to that... I was wondering if it was the same one (return trip after walking Tiger Leaping Gorge)... but the names, text on truck - don't look Chinese.

Some bits, I swear - were thinner than the thinnest bits in that video... having had landslides overnight. For those pieces - I did get out and walk. I was just looking at the "road" that was left, compared to the width of vehicle...and was, as the kids put it, "all like, nah, fuck that".

I did a downhill mountain bike trek in Bolivia on the worlds most dangerous road. At one place we stopped they called it Italian corner. Because some girl didn't realise they were stopping crashed and slid over the edge. Guide said they lose one or two every year. He seemed to think it was the cost of doing business.

Yeah - I did Death Road also... everybody I've met who has ever done it was always told about "the girl last month who went over the edge".
I figured it was the typical anecdote they use to make people be a little less gung-ho.
But then you see the wrecks of minibuses and shit down at the bottom of the ravine, and start wondering... and then I was literally inches from being one of those statistics. Thought I'd be a fancy fluffybunny and slide sideways to a stop at one of the rest breaks... slid a lot further than I'd expected, and stopped right on the edge, literally tottering over the edge. No more being a flash fluffybunny. (Well, not much).

My wife has the cool story to tell about how she crashed on death road. They do the brakes the other way round to what she was used to; also she had never ridden hydraulic disc. So she was hammering down a fast section and thought woo a bit too fast pulled the brake flipped the bike. She was a bit shook up after that and took it pretty easy afterwards.

My main fear would be the strength of that yellow cord connecting me to the carabineers. Before I started I would want the equiv of three or four of me hanging off it to test!

That worries me less as if one gives way you are still secured to fall line. But I do hear you.

I might add that even if I won the trip, I doubt I would take it up

@kirwan don't worry bro, they use the good concrete and steel at home - it's just the export stuff that's shit.
