Yeah don't know about this. He was great for us in 2014 and I am a huge fan, but with him and SBW, someone's gonna pack a sad out of the 2. Still, it's much better than having to see Rieko at 12 so can't complain on that part.

@Duluth He obviously knows something. It wouldn't suprise me one bit tbh. I'd rather give Tumua Manu a go instead of Ranger, he was shocking for us in his last stint.

Well, history suggests he needs either black or yellow on his jumper to perform, so a risky selection.

That said, he will be in a completely different head-space now to what he was after being booted from his beloved Canes, so it could work out.

Well actual history would suggest he was actually quite good in one of his Blues stints - I'm sure one of the Blues fans on here can remind us which one it was.

Yep Nonu was very good in his last stint with the Blues (2014).

    Good signing IMO.
Let’s assume a; he’s matured since his last Blues stint and will not bring the ego and b; he’s got a pretty healthy respect for Tana so will be on best behaviour.

I’d imagine he’ll job share with SBW, which helps keep him fresh and fit for the WC.

He will b e 36 or 37 come next season and with S-B Williams being in his mid 30s it must make for the oldest mid field combo by about a dozen years over any other NZ team. Given that situation it will be interesting to see the make up of the reserve bench.

All Blacks wing Rieko Ioane has agreed a new deal with New Zealand Rugby and it's likely to be announced next week.

His new deal, which could be for three to four years, will be announced alongside that of his brother, Akira, a loose forward on the cusp of the All Blacks squad. Both men had already committed themselves to staying at the Blues. It is understood Akira has agreed on a shorter deal of perhaps two years.

I remember we signed a long deal with another high strike rate winger, worked out well, didn't it? 😉

Ioane is different tho, younger and has a midfield future when he slows

@kiwimurph Great news. There are now two players who have now been signed by NZR and their franchises through to 2022 and both are outside backs (the other one being George Bridge).

There are still quite a lot of players of which we don't know for sure whether they are under contract for 2019, or not, due to their re-signing or contract duration not having been published.

@stargazer I wonder if uncertainty around the future of Super Rugby is a factor in all this. At this stage no one knows what Super Rugby is going to look like after next year.

Wellington teenager Billy Proctor has signed the longest deal in Hurricanes history.

The 19-year-old utility back will link up with his older brother, Matt Proctor, after committing to the Super Rugby franchise until the end of 2023.

Never before have the Hurricanes offered a player a five-year contract, which shows just how highly they rate the former New Zealand under-20 representative.

"I'm obviously really excited about the opportunity. The length of my contract gives me some real security and the ability to just concentrate on developing my game," Proctor said.

"I've always supported the Hurricanes and to get the opportunity to play Super Rugby in my home town is obviously really special."

Hurricanes coach John Plumtree said Proctor caught the eye while playing for their development team.

"We believe Billy has a big future in the game if he continues to make the sort of progress he is making at the moment and he's made it clear that future involves the Hurricanes," he said.

"It also shows there is a great pathway for young local players who put the effort in to be rewarded."

@daffy-jaffy Wow, five years. That's a long contract for such a young player!

@canes4life promise!!?? if he does that deal will look like a genius move. Really sucks that injuries put paid to Matt's chance of a crack at the AB midfield.

Former Wallabies squad member, will he be good enough to make any of the NZ 39 contracted players Super Squads?

@rocky-rockbottom He and Manu would be decent signings for the Blues.
